A judge ordered President Donald Trump to pay million to a collection of nonprofit organizations as part of a settlement with the New York state attorney general's office to resolve a civil lawsuit that alleged "persistent" violations of charities law that included unlawful coordination with the 2016 Trump presidential campaign, according to a court filing Thursday.Filed in June 2018, the lawsuit alleged that the President and his three eldest children -- Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric -- violated federal and state campaign finance laws and abused the Donald J. Trump Foundation's tax-exempt status. According to the lawsuit, the Trumps allowed the foundation to be used "as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump's business and political interests."The settlement comes in the wake of an agreement by the foundation in December to dissolve under judicial supervision.Attorneys for the charity had said that "all of the money raised by the Foundation went to charitable causes to assist those most in need," and accused the attorney general's office of political motivation, citing campaign trail comments made by Attorney General Letitia James, who took office in January.Trump himself had vowed to fight the lawsuit, 1243

A Florida man is facing a charge of attempted murder after body camera and dashcam video showed him dragging a sheriff's deputy with his car during a traffic stop.Rocky Rudolph, 38, of Apopka, Florida, was pulled over by Seminole County Sheriff's Deputy Aaron Blais Saturday. The body camera footage released by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office Sunday shows the deputy and the driver having a calm, friendly interaction in the first few minutes of the traffic stop after Blais tells Rudolph he pulled him over for having tinted windows. The two men even joke with each other about the suspect's unusual name. But things turn sour when Blais asks Rudolph if he has any marijuana in the vehicle before telling him to turn off his vehicle.Instead, Rudolph throws the car in drive as the deputy hangs out of the window screaming for the driver to stop.Rudolph briefly stops and Blais points a gun at him ordering him to stop the car before Rudolph pulls off again toward a highway.Dashcam video shows the deputy fall off of the vehicle as it speeds away. The sheriff's office searched for Rudolph following the incident and he was taken into custody shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the department said.Blais was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital Saturday, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.Rudolph is being held without bond in Seminole County Jail on charges of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer with violence, according to the county jail roster.A court appearance for Rudolph is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday.CNN has not determined whether Rudolph currently has legal representation in this case. 1764

A 12-year-old girl from Atlanta, Georgia, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, is responding well to treatment. Doctors diagnosed the girl, Emma, with pneumonia earlier this month. Days later, she tested positive for COVID-19. The girl was admitted to the children’s hospital, where she is slowly waking up from sedation, according to the girl’s cousin, Justin Anthony. Anthony said the girl’s lungs showed “good improvement.” He told CNN his cousin had no pre-existing conditions. The girl's family previously said they don't know how she contracted the virus.Earlier this week, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms 637

The most popular museums in Washington, D.C. are now closed until a deal can be reached to end the government shutdown. Tourist Staci Jones flew to D.C. from Texas to see the African American Museum, the Smithsonian's newest and most popular museum. “It is frustrating that the one thing I wanted to do, I’m not gonna be able to do before I leave,” Jones says. Adonai Mahoungou came to D.C. from Mississippi and also wanted to see the museum.“I was really disappointed because I was getting ready to go to museums, have some fun,” says Mahoungou. “And to see that because of a government shutdown, disappointing, because I was ready! I was excited! Dang.” In addition to all Smithsonian museums being closed, the National Zoo is also closed, including the zoo's popular giant panda web cam. Outside of D.C., the shutdown is forcing some national parks to close because of health and safety concerns. Understaffed parks cannot keep up with overflowing toilets and trash cans. “It was kind of smelling bad down there, and I don't know how it's affecting the park with human waste and everything,” says Yosemite National Park visitor Katie Kensok. As more people start to feel the pain from the shutdown, President Trump and new Congress now face more pressure to come up with a solution. “Being from Texas, I don't work for the government. I didn't think it would affect me that much, but now, I’m starting to see, yeah, it does affect people who don't work for the government in other ways,” says Jones. “I just wish they would come together.” 1557
