SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is warning students that they will need to be re-vaccinated against meningitis after Walgreens gave out shots at non-optimal temperature.According to The Daily Aztec, Walgreens recently discovered that the meningococcus B vaccines, given to 350 students on October 5 and 8, weren’t given at the right temperature.The company says its reaching out to students who received them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego winemakers say business is picking up, and there's a new way to for locals to get their foot in the door. A new report by the San Diego County Vintners Association says there are now 116 wineries in the region, with sales nearly doubling in the last year. The industry now has about 700 workers in the county. Now, the association has teamed up with Cuyamaca College for a Viticulture Technician Apprenticeship program. Participants work 1,500 hours a year, learning the ins and outs of winemaking. They earn an hour the first year and the second, with opportunities to make more doing side jobs once they get enough experience. "You can't really sell wine unless you know where it's coming from and what goes into it, creating the story behind the wine itself," said Kaylan Wedemeyer, who is an apprentice for La Mesa's San Pasqual Winery.Linda McWilliams, who owns San Pasqual, said many local wineries are mom and pops, but that apprentices can also grow with them."I think we'll find places for the people who graduate, and then we'll build together," she said. The program is accepting applications ahead of interviews in December, and January starts.  1227

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Board of Supervisors announced 11 legally enforceable health orders to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.The new health orders included:All public or private “gatherings,” defined as any event or convening that brings together 50 or more people in a single room or single space at the same time, such as an auditorium, stadium, arena, theater, church, casino, large conference room, meeting hall, cafeteria, or any other theater, church, casino, large conference room, meeting hall, cafeteria, or any other indoor or outdoor space, are prohibited. All non-essential gatherings of any size are strongly discouraged;All bars, adult entertainment establishments, and other business establishments that serve alcohol and do not serve food, shall close;All restaurants and other business establishments that serve food shall close all on-site dining. All food served shall be by delivery, or through pick-up or drive thru. Social distancing shall be required for persons picking up food on site.All businesses shall enact social distancing, increased sanitation standards, and shall make every effort to use telecommuting for its workforce. All businesses shall suspend any policy or procedure requiring doctor verification for sick or other leave approval;All public or private schools, colleges, and universities shall not hold classes or other school activities where students gather on the school campus. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Saturday was a picturesque day in San Diego with many people enjoying outdoor dining, but the opportunity is slipping away due to Governor Gavin Newsom’s new stay-at-home orders.“We have a really close community of workers here, and to see it shut down again is really sad,” Abby Pekary said.Pekary has been welcoming guests into Little Italy’s Nonna for more than two years. By Monday, she could be out of a job due to Newsom’s new orders.Pekary is a full-time student at San Diego State University, hostessing to save up to eventually move out of her parent’s house.Her latest obstacle from the state is Newsom’s regional shutdown order, limiting restaurants to takeout or delivery only. The order also forces bars and wineries to close amid COVID-19.“I had a couple people who during the first shutdown they actually moved back to Bay Area because they were living here and just because they were out of a job they had to live with their families,” Pekary added.Unlike the first shutdown in March of 2020, there is no federal stimulus to cushion the fall. Restaurants and employees are left to fend for themselves under the new order. “Of course we're still open for takeout, so if you want to do that, that's always an option for ya.”Restaurants say there likely aren’t enough takers to keep jobs, or at least hours, from being cut. 1364
