Daryl Dragon, one half of popular '70s duo The Captain & Tennille, died Wednesday, according to his publicist Harlan Boll.Dragon, whose ever-present captain's hat left no doubt about which half of the duo he was, died of renal failure in Prescott, Arizona, Boll said."He was a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly," Toni Tennille said in a statement. "I was at my most creative in my life, when I was with him."Tennille was at Dragon's side when he passed away, Boll said.The duo's best-known songs included "Muskrat Love," "Do That to Me One More Time" and "Love Will Keep Us Together."Dragon, a classically trained pianist, was most at home behind the keyboard. One of his early gigs was as a backup musician for the Beach Boys in the mid '60s.Dragon and Tennille met in 1971 when she hired him to play piano for a musical called "Mother Earth." DETROIT — A Detroit Police Department officer is at the center of an internal investigation after he showed up under the influence of alcohol to training in Lansing, Michigan, Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters Friday. Michigan State Police say it was discovered after the officer volunteered to be part of a demonstration on breathalyzer training.The incident comes a week after another officer, who was still in her probationary period, was arrested for allegedly selling drugs. The officer at the training facility in Lansing blew a .08, said Craig. The officer was not arrested because he was not armed at the time and did not drive to the training session, according to Michigan State Police. The matter was turned over to Detroit police. DENVER, Colo. — Several Denver police officers stepped up to make sure the daughter of a fallen detective had the perfect wedding. “That was a really hard thing to think about, walking down the aisle without him,” Kourtney Krietemeier told KMGH. Her father, Denver Police Det. Donnie Young, was killed in the line of duty in 2005.Her aunt recommended having some of Young’s former colleagues walk her down the aisle and her mother offered to step in for the father-daughter dance. On her wedding day, she danced with her mother for a few minutes, but when the song changed — to one she instantly recognized — she knew something was up. “When I was super young, my dad got me a small replica of his badge with his badge number on it and he played that song when he gave it to me,” she said. “I was shocked. I just knew the tears were going to be flowing.”One of the Denver police officers who worked with her father took her mother's spot and danced with her. One by one, her father's multiple former colleagues took their turn dancing with the bride. She said they told her things she would have heard from her father that day — how proud they were of her, how excited they were for her. And how special her father was to them.
