(KGTV) -- While COVID-19 has taken the lives of thousands across the country, one couple has come up with a way for their memories to live on. Rebecca Heiss and Dermot Jevens, from South Carolina, came up with the idea to create a site to honor those who lost their battles to the virus. “This is going to be an entire community built memorial,” says Jevens.“It was frustrating and sad and scary, and realizing that these were people,” says Heiss. “They weren’t just numbers.”“Mourning America” launched in late March. So far, there are 4,500 names posted. The couple has received nearly 100 submissions from families all over the U.S., with the picture and story of their loved one. The couple says some families haven’t been able to give their loved ones a proper memorial. “This lady’s mom passed away in a nursing home. She wasn’t able to be there with her,” says Jevens. “She wasn’t able to go to the funeral. You can feel that pain and almost that release as she was writing and sending in the story.”The couple has not received any submissions from San Diego yet, but they say their mission is to honor each person who has passed from the virus. The tubing destination plans to open for the season Saturday, Nov. 2, and remain open on Saturdays and Sundays until Nov. 11, when daily operations will resume. (KGTV) -- The new school year begins Monday morning for the Sweetwater Union High School District, and classes will be very different this time around for students and teachers due to the coronavirus pandemic.Starting Monday, Aug. 3, classes will be taught online, with all students equipped with district-issued computers, laptops or tablets to connect with teachers.SUHSD students will be on a daily block schedule that puts them in three classes per day with 30-45 minutes of virtual face time with teachers. Students’ remaining time will be independent study to complete coursework.District officials said the 2020-21 school year will begin with distance learning through at least Oct. 2. According to the district, the goal is to provide flexibility to begin the school year so adjustments can be made along the way.During the school year, the district plans to evaluate the possibility of a return to in-class instruction on three dates:-- Sept. 21: District will assess whether distance learning will continue after fall break.-- Nov. 30: District will assess whether distance learning will continue into second semester or potentially bring 10% of students back to schools.-- March 1: District will assess whether distance learning will continue through the end of the school year.If in-class instruction is allowed, all schools will have safety protocols in place that will be monitored. 1404

‘Tis the season for holiday travel! This Thanksgiving, air travel is expected to be busier than ever before.“We’re expecting an all-time high for 2018 Thanksgiving travel,” says Sharon Pinkerton, vice president of Airlines for America.U.S. airport officials say 30 million passengers are expected to travel through security checkpoints between Nov. 16 and Nov. 27. That’s up 5 percent from last year.“We want to ensure our passengers can get through our security systems quicker than they do in the past,” says David Pekoske, an administrator with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).To speed the process up, Pekoske says new technology is being put into more airports, including automated screening lanes and improved carry-on scanners.But there are things travelers should do, too, to ensure the security process moves as fast as possible.The biggest checkpoint hold-ups: packing prohibited carry-on items and forgetting things in your pockets.“My advice for PreCheck passengers is to just be patient,” Pekoske says.Even PreCheck passengers will be gambling with longer lines this holiday.“I’ve been in times where I want to get in the other line,” says traveler Dan Stagg, who has TSA PreCheck.Stagg says he’s already seeing the long lines, even for PreCheck travelers. But there is some good news.
