The child collapsed a short time later and died after her heart failed. Her family has no idea how or where Kimmie contracted coronavirus. Her grief-stricken mother says the child was healthy, stayed home all summer and she had no contact with anyone who had COVID-19.The 9-year-old is the fifth child in Florida to die from the virus. More than 400,000 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the state, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. 840

Researchers are working to find out who is buried in the 604 unmarked graves that were found on Clemson University's campus. In a press release, university officials said crews were surveying the Woodland Cemetery, located near Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, when the unmarked graves were found.Using ground-penetrating radar, crews initially found 200 unmarked graves, but as the project went on, crews found 404 more graves."The number of graves coupled with the locations suggests the possibility that some may pre-date the period when the land was part of Calhoun's Fort Hill Plantation from 1830 to 1865," university officials stated in the press release. "Many of the graves are thought to be those of enslaved people who worked at the plantation and later as sharecroppers and Black laborers, including convicted individuals involved in the construction of Clemson College from 1890 to 1915."According to Greenville News, University Historian Paul Anderson and a research assistant will comb through census data and archives to find out who is buried there and when they were placed there.Former Clemson trustee Jim Bostic told the Greenville News that a large memorial would be put in place to honor those in the unmarked graves. 1258

President Donald Trump's support for Scott Pruitt may be wavering as White House aides renew a push to convince the President?he should fire his embattled EPA chief, several sources told CNN.White House officials saw a fresh opening to sway Trump against Pruitt late last week after the Atlantic published a report accusing a Pruitt aide of trying to spread negative stories about a fellow Cabinet member, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. The report struck a chord with the President, who was bothered by the development and has grown more open to his aides' arguments that Pruitt must go, a White House aide and source close to the White House said.Despite nearly a dozen investigations into Pruitt's conduct, Trump has resisted calls to fire Pruitt, worried about disruptions to his deregulatory agenda and concerned that it would be difficult to confirm a successor. White House aides have assured the President the agency's work can continue unabated if the EPA's recently-confirmed deputy administrator, Andrew Wheeler, takes over."The ground has absolutely shifted," said a source close to the White House, who said the President is becoming convinced that Pruitt is doing more harm than good in his position. But it was the allegation that Pruitt's team was taking aim at Zinke in an effort to distract from the EPA administrator's ethical troubles that has especially troubled the President and his aides, who were angry after catching wind of the reported plot, one White House source said. 1514

Rafael Nadal, the current No. 2-ranked tennis player in the world and winner of 19 career Grand Slam titles, won’t play in the upcoming US Open citing coronavirus concerns.Nadal, 34, is chasing Roger Federer for most career Grand Slam titles as both players head toward the twilights of the careers. For Nadal the spread of the coronavirus took precedence to catching Federer, who has won 20 Grand Slams.“The situation is very complicated worldwide, the COVID-19 cases are increasing, it looks like we still don’t have control of it,” Nadal said on Tuesday. “We know that the reduced tennis calendar is barbaric this year after 4 months stopped with no play, I understand and thank for the efforts they are putting in to make it happen.”The tennis calendar was scaled back in March as the coronavirus began to spread worldwide. This year’s Wimbledon tournament was canceled altogether, while the French Open, a tournament Nadal has won a record-setting 12 times, has been postponed to early October.Despite major tournaments being postponed, players have continued playing competitive matches, sometimes amid controversy. Early in the summer, tennis star Novak Djokovic organized an Eastern Europe tournament that ignored coronavirus safety measures. The tournament’s final ended up being canceled, and a number of players, including Djokovic, ended up with coronavirus infections. 1389

RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Diego County gym owner has been charged with several misdemeanors for violating public health orders, according to the District Attorney’s Office.According to the DA, Peter San Nicolas, owner of Ramona Fitness Center, is facing five charges for “violation of California emergency services act.”According to the document, each of the misdemeanors carry a ,000 fine. The complaint states that from June 2 through July 17, San Nicolas “did refuse and willfully neglect to obey a lawful order.”San Nicolas says he violated the orders because he felt it was the right thing to do. He is getting legal help to fight the charges."It's about all businesses; small businesses like the salon across the street, the coffee shop down the road, the couple of new restaurants that have opened and are struggling." San Nicolas said. "It's not about me anymore. It's about all small business, and I feel it's my duty to stand up.""We understand and sympathize with the significant hardship placed on businesses who are required to remain closed. But public health orders are in place to safeguard the health of everyone in our community amid this deadly pandemic,” the District Attorney’s office said.“Along with our law enforcement partners, we work with businesses to give them opportunities to achieve voluntary compliance. But when the public health order is ignored and the law is broken, the public's health is at risk and we will file charges,” a statement continued. The move marks the first time the office has filed charges over the public health order. 1586
