SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Del Mar Fairgrounds announced layoffs Thursday amid the coronavirus pandemic.According to the fairgrounds, staffing will be reduced by 58 percent due to a loss of revenue."Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent ban on mass gatherings, the 22nd District Agricultural Association|Del Mar Fairgrounds (22nd DAA) has suffered severe financial losses to its income streams."The fairgrounds says since March, revenues have fallen by 66 percent "Combined with the postponement of the San Diego County Fair and no patrons for this year’s summer horse racing meet, revenues are estimated to be down 92 percent by the end of the summer."The fairgrounds will give employees 120 days of continued employement with an official layoff date of October 15.“It is with a heavy heart that we must make the difficult decision to reduce staffing at this time,” said Tim Fennell, CEO and General Manager of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. “Until it is safe to host events again, reducing our staffing levels is crucial to the survival of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. We must preserve this community treasure in order to continue its legacy for future generations as an economic engine for the region and a beloved entertainment and education destination. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced new safety measures for its offices Thursday as the coronavirus pandemic continues across the state.Starting Thursday morning, every person who goes to a DMV location will get their temperature checked before they're allowed inside.Previously, only people getting in-car driving tests were subject to temperature checks.A DMV spokesperson told ABC 10News they'll follow CDC guidelines, only letting people inside if their temperature is below 100.4 degrees."We always follow the guidelines that are issued by the CDC," said DMV spokesperson Cynthia Moreno. "So, following their guidelines, we decided that it would be best to start taking the temperature of all of our customers and our employees to make sure that we follow the safety protocols."The temperature screening is in addition to safety measures already in place, which include mask requirements, social distancing, limited services available and hand-washing and sanitizing stations located throughout each field office.Because of all that, DMV officials say it's best to do as much as you can on the agency's website and avoid coming into the offices, if possible."We want to make sure the people who come to our offices feel safe," said Moreno. On Thursday, 10News tagged along for an inspection at Robin and Mike Judd's home in Santee. "It's a concern, in today's world, security, how safe are you? And you can never be too safe," Robin said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The mother of a missing San Diego State graduate is offering a ,000 reward to find him.Wesley Billingsly, 24, was last seen in June. A San Diego Police flyer indicated he was prepared to meet friends and never arrived.Billingsly earned a degree in business administration and marketing from SDSU. He traveled to his native Sacramento and earned money for his return to San Diego, his mother Christel told 10News.Christel Billingsley said her son was looking for a job and wanted to save on rent. After June 1, he did not have a permanent address and started couch-surfing at friends’ homes in Pacific Beach.Wesley and his Ford Expedition disappeared June 12. “It’s completely out of character,” said his mother.Christel paid her son’s phone bill and described him as a social media junkie. About two months ago, the phone stopped showing activity.“Everything stopped on June 12. He just vanished off the face of this earth,” Christel said.Christel is employed as a school officer manager in Sacramento and recently returned to her job after summer break.
