GUANGZHOU, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- China is to maintain basic stability and continuity in the economic policies and RMB exchange rate to ensure a foreseeable prospect for its businesses.     Minister of Commerce Chen Deming made the remarks Sunday at the Canton Fair, an important barometer of China's foreign trade, in Guangzhou City, capital of southern Guangdong Province.     In the following months, China would maintain stability of the macro-economic policies, stick to the proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy, Chen said.     Meanwhile, the RMB exchange rate should also maintain relatively stable so that domestic manufacturers and exporters can better predict and adjust to the market, Chen added.     Chen said the number of participants to the fair and the trade volume showed China's foreign trade was recovering, but uncertainties remained.     Chen urged Chinese enterprises to enhance their competitiveness with better quality and lower cost by technological upgrading and restructuring. "Next year, our focus will be on the quality of export products," he said.     "Enhancing competitiveness with better product quality and brand-building is also an effective way of avoiding trade protectionism," Chen added.     In the previous three quarters this year, 19 countries and regions have launched 88 trade remedy investigations against Chinese goods, totaling 10.2 billion U.S. dollars.     "In addition to the recovering export, China's import is also on the rise, contributing significantly to the recovery of the world economy," Chen said.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Canada would like to further economic ties with China, said visiting Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper here on Friday.     Harper announced the launch of four new trade offices in China by the Canadian government in cooperation with the Canadian Commercial Cooperation at a welcome banquet here Friday night. China is Canada's second largest merchandise trading partner and third largest export market. COPENHAGEN, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Thursday that China is not obliged to subject its voluntary climate action to international monitoring.     Wen made the remarks when meeting with some world leaders on the sidelines of the ongoing UN climate change conference in the Danish capital, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei told reporters. The Bali Action Plan has clear stipulations regarding whether a country's mitigation action should be subject to international scrutiny, He Yafei quoted Wen as saying.     "For developing countries, only those mitigation actions supported internationally will be subject to the MRV. The voluntary mitigation actions should not be subject to international MRV," Wen said, referring to the scheme requiring national mitigation action to be "measurable, reportable and verifiable." BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's upcoming state visits to Malaysia and Singapore would comprehensively push forward China's ties with the two nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said an official with the Foreign Ministry here Friday.     Hu will pay state visits to Malaysia and Singapore from Nov. 10to 13, at the invitations of Malaysian Supreme Head of State Mizan Zainal Abidin and Singaporean President S. R. Nathan.     It is the first time for President Hu Jintao to pay state visits to Malaysia and Singapore as president of China, and it is also the first time in 15 years for a Chinese President to visit the two countries, said Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue at a news briefing.     During his stay in Malaysia, Hu will hold talks with Supreme Head of State Mizan and meet with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.     "President Hu's visit to Malaysia will surely further deepen strategic cooperation between the two nations and advance bilateral ties," said the assistant foreign minister.     While in Singapore, he will hold talks with President Nathan and meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.     President Hu will exchange views with Singaporean leaders on deepening mutually beneficial and cooperative ties, and discuss international and regional issues of common concern," said the assistant foreign minister.     Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce Yi Xiaozhun said China and the two countries had good economic and trade relations and were each other's important trade partners.     In Malaysia, the two sides will sign economic and trade cooperative documents to push forward joint projects in the infrastructure area.     While in Singapore, leaders of both nations will discuss on how to promote bilateral trade and investment, advance major cooperative projects and enhance cooperation within the framework of regional and international trade.     "We believe that President Hu's visit will surely expand the scale of economic and trade cooperation between China and the two countries, and promote the sustained and stable development of bilateral relations, " Yi said.
