SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A judge Monday denied a request by four San Diego County businesses seeking to resume indoor operations following the county's recent slide into the purple tier of the state's coronavirus reopening plan.San Diego Superior Court Judge Kenneth J. The federal convictions reached Thursday-- in a case investigated by the Oceanside Police Department -- trigger mandatory minimum sentences of 15 and ten years, respectively, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.According to evidence presented at trial, Smallwood-Jackson began communicating with the girl using the Spotafriend social media application. He admitted during chats with the victim -- whose profile listed her true age of 14 -- that he was 21 years old and didn't care that she was a minor.Using the internet, Smallwood-Jackson discussed sexual acts he wanted to perform with the girl and convinced her to produce and send him sexually explicit pictures and provide her address, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Mandy Griffith.The girl repeatedly told Smallwood-Jackson that she was not sure she wanted to meet with him, but he told her to take a "leap of faith." SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 26-year-old pedestrian was hospitalized this morning with a fractured pelvis and other internal injuries she sustained when she was struck by a 2015 Honda Accord sedan while crossing a street in the Mt. Hope area of San Diego, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.It occurred at the intersection of Market and Denby streets at 10:35 p.m. Friday as the victim was crossing Market Street legally, but not in a marked crosswalk, according to Sgt. Michael Tansey of the San Diego Police Department.The victim, identified as Ruth James of San Diego, was taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, Tansey said.The driver of the Honda, a 40-year-old woman, was jailed on suspicion of felony DUI, he said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 16-year-old boy suspected of stealing a vehicle and leading police in San Diego on a short pursuit was hospitalized Monday evening with a broken hip after being ejected or jumping from the vehicle and being run over before the Jeep struck a traffic signal pole.Officers received information about a 2019 Jeep Compass stolen from the 3800 block of Fairmount Avenue about 7:20 p.m. and spotted the vehicle speeding and attempted to stop it near 54th Street and University Avenue, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.The driver fled southbound on 54th Street and ran red lights, prompting the pursuit to be terminated, Buttle said.The suspect continued southbound on 54th Street, crossed into the northbound lanes and crashed in the Chollas Creek area into a traffic signal, where he was either ejected or tried to get out of the Jeep before it stopped and was run over, pinning his arm under a tire, Buttle said.Firefighters freed the suspect from under the Jeep and he was taken to a hospital with a fractured hip.Two 16-year-old girls in the Jeep were taken to a hospital to be evaluated, Buttle said. 1161
