Actress Katherine Helmond was a TV sitcom star in the 70s and 80s and continued acting well into her 80s before succumbing to complications from Alzheimer’s disease last week at the age of 89, Variety Magazine reported. Helmond reportedly died on Feb. 23, but her death was not made public until Friday.During her six-decade career as a thespian, Helmond earned a pair of Golden Globe Awards, and a number of Emmy nominations. She also earned a Tony Award nomination. Helmond's most prominent role was on the sitcom "Who's the Boss," as she played Mona Robinson from 1984 to 1992. "Who's the Boss" was one of the most popular sitcoms of the 80s, and was consistently one of the 10 most watched TV shows on TV. For her part playing Robinson, Helmond earned a Golden Globe Award, and a pair of Emmy nominations. Helmond played also played a comedic role on the sitcom "Soap" from 1977 to 1981. The sitcom was a spoof on daytime soap operas. She also won a Golden Globe for her role on "Soap."Before her two breakout TV comedy roles, Helmond appeared in a number of films as well as taking on walk-on roles on TV shows. A Sandusky, Ohio, man was taken to a hospital Wednesday after crashing a car into a bus shelter when he spotted a spider in his car.The 21-year-old man was driving a 2003 Cadillac CTS when he saw the bug, hit a curb and drove through a bus stop shelter on the side of the road, Sandusky police said. The man reentered the road and stopped shortly thereafter.The man was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, authorities said. A surprising discovery in a local park has St. Pete police giving three young kids ages 8, 7, and 5, a much-deserved shout out.On Sunday, Abigail Ellis, 7, her brother Harry, 5, and a neighborhood friend were cleaning up trash from Forrest Bluff Park when they came across a revolver in the creek bed.“I said there is a gun come see it,” Abigail said. Instead of picking up the gun Abigail said she knew better.“Mom and dad taught me about guns, and sometimes I watch movies, and there would be guns and killing,” Abigail said. Abigail ran to her grandma’s house, who then called her dad, who called the police.“Very proud,” Harry Ellis said of his two kids. “Just glad they knew not to touch it. I think they’ll get a little ice cream tonight."When St. Pete police arrived, it turned out to be a BB gun.Abigail said she hopes other kids follow their lead.“I feel good.
