Special counsel Robert Mueller has indicted 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities for allegedly meddling in the 2016 presidential election, charging them with conspiracy to defraud the United States, the Department of Justice announced Friday. In addition, three defendants were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, and five defendants with aggravated identity theft."The defendants allegedly conducted what they called information warfare against the United States, with the stated goal of spreading distrust towards the candidates and the political system in general," Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said.Mueller had convened the grand jury as part of his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election as well as any possible connections between Russia and Trump campaign associates.Read the entire indictment in the window below. The sweeping indictment describes in detail an unprecedented campaign by Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election, affirming the longstanding conclusions of the US intelligence community. It is at odds with President Donald Trump's repeated questioning of those conclusions, which has continued throughout his first year in office. CNN reported this week that Trump is still not convinced that Russia meddled in the election.Trump emphasized the lack of allegations of any impact on the presidential election."Russia started their anti-US campaign in 2014, long before I announced that I would run for President," he tweeted. "The results of the election were not impacted. The Trump campaign did nothing wrong - no collusion!" Russia started their anti-US campaign in 2014, long before I announced that I would run for President. Seventeen days after voters went to the polls in Ohio's 12th congressional district, Republican Troy Balderson hung on by a 1,680-vote margin to win the seat over insurgent Democrat Danny O'Connor. The seat, previously held by Pat Tiberi, and before that current Ohio Gov. John Kasich, has been held by Republicans since 1983. The district has not seen a competitive race since then, as both Kasich and Tiberi typically won every two years by comfortable margins. But the district, which includes parts of Columbus' affluent northern suburbs, rapidly urbanizing Delaware County to Columbus' north, as well as several surrounding rural counties, became competitive after Tiberi announced his retirement. Polls leading up to the Aug. 7 battle showed a dead heat. On election night, Balderson held a nearly 1,500-vote advantage. O'Connor announced that he would wait on all absentee and provisional ballots to be counted before conceding. All of those votes have now been counted as of Friday. “I just called Troy Balderson to congratulate him on his victory in the 12th Congressional district special election," O'Connor said in a statement. "I want to express my deepest thanks to my campaign staff, our volunteers, and to everyone who cast a vote in the special election, whether it was for me or not."Balderson also issued a response on Friday. "Danny O'Connor ran a hard-fought race," he said, "but I look forward to earning the support of voters for a fourth time in November as I share my track record of getting things done for Ohioans."While both were gracious to each other on Friday, the affinity for each other will almost certainly be short lived. Both O'Connor and Balderson also are on the ballot in November. And with control of the House of Representatives hanging in the balance in November, there is no reason to believe that either candidate will let up on the attacks on each other from the special election. Democrats will need to gain 25 seats in order to flip the House for the first time since 2010. According to Cook Political Report, there are 30 toss-up seats up for grabs, with 28 of them currently being held by Republicans. If the Democrats win a majority of those seats, they will likely regain control of the House.  2323

Seven children have died as a result of adenovirus at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, New Jersey. The Wanaque facility has been "instructed not to admit any new patients until the outbreak ends and they are in full compliance," according to the health department. The timing of the deaths is not clear. The health department was notified of respiratory illness at the center on October 9 and Wanaque sent parents of children at the facility letters about the infection on October 19 according to Nicole Kirgan at the New Jersey Department of Health. On Tuesday the New Jersey Department of Health announced the death of six pediatric residents at the center and the infection of 12 additional residents. Wednesday the department announced an additional pediatric death. The New Jersey Department of Health said it's an ongoing outbreak investigation and workers were at the facility Tuesday. A team at the facility on Sunday found minor handwashing deficiencies. "The Department continues to work very closely with the facility to ensure that all infection control measures are being followed," the Wanaque facility said in a statement Wednesday. The exact ages of the children are not being released to protect patient privacy, Nicole Kirgan, a spokeswoman for the department of health said, adding that the age ranges for the deceased children was "from a toddler through young adults - but most are under 18."Adenoviruses can cause mild to severe illness, though serious illness is less common. People with weakened immune systems or existing respiratory or cardiac disease are at higher risk of developing severe illness from an adenovirus infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This outbreak, caused by adenovirus type 7, "is affecting medically fragile children with severely compromised immune systems. The strain has been particularly associated with disease in communal living arrangements and can be more severe," according to the health department statement. In a statement Tuesday, the facility said it "promptly notified all appropriate government agencies when the virus was initially identified.""The Wanaque Center continues to fully cooperate with these agencies and has sought out their medical guidance with respect to the virus," the facility said. "As a result, facility staff have diligently implemented all available infection control and prevention measures in order to protect the health and safety of the Wanaque Center's residents."Nurses at the facility had previously reported a shortage of nursing staff and supplies, according to a statement from the union that represents the nursing staff which was posted online Tuesday. The Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) said the shortages may have led to "poor infection control practices."The union said it represents the 70 nurses that work at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. In a review by the government's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services the Wanaque Center was awarded an above average ranking in overall quality but was given a below average health inspection rating. Based on an inspection conducted in August, CMS reported that "it was determined that the facility failed to provide a clean and homelike physical environment for their residents. " 3335

SHAVER LAKE, Calif. (AP) — More than 200 people were airlifted to safety after a fast-moving wildfire trapped them in a popular camping area in California's Sierra National Forest. The California Office of Emergency Services said Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters were used for the rescues that began Saturday night and continued overnight. At least two people were severely injured and 10 more suffered moderate injuries. The Creek Fire exploded in size amid sweltering temperatures Saturday and chewed through extremely dry vegetation, cutting off evacuation routes to Mammoth Pool Reservoir. The area northeast of Fresno is a popular weekend getaway. 662
