Two others died in a wildfire near Salem on Wednesday.In Washington, a 1-year-old boy was killed by the Cold Springs Fire, which is currently burning in the northeast part of the state.USA Today reports that more than 500,000 people in Oregon have been forced to evacuate due to the wildfires — more than 10% of the state's population. Many of the fires burning in Oregon are currently 0% contained — further threatening forest, 900,000 acres of which have already been burned in the state. That's more than double what typically burns in an entire year.“We have never seen this amount of uncontained fire across the state,” Oregon Gov. The CDC could take over handling COVID-19 data coming in from states and medical facilities again, according to media reports.This week, during a briefing on a visit to Arkansas, Dr. Deborah Birx said the CDC is working "to build a revolutionary new data system so it can be moved back to the CDC" for tracking COVID-19 treatment, patients and PPE needs, according to the Wall Street Journal.The CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network site had been tracking COVID-19 cases and data since the pandemic started.Then, abruptly in mid-July, hospitals and states were asked to stop using it and send their information directly to Health and Human Services, and a new database created by private contractor TeleTracking.The request was initially made in an effort to cut down on duplicate requests and minimize the reporting burden on hospitals and facilities.However, many hospitals, state officials and journalists noted the numbers in the new system seemed incomplete and the database was slow to update.The CDC is reportedly working with the U.S. Digital Service, according to the WSJ, an agency set up during the Obama administration to help improve HealthCare.gov, the marketplace for insurance plans that are part of the Affordable Care Act.There was no timeline mentioned as part of Dr. Birx’s comments, according to NPR. 1333

As a result, the number of young adults, those ages 18-to-29, who live with their parents is at an all-time high.The Pew Research Center reports 52 percent of young adults lived with one or both of their parents in July. That translates to about 26,6 million young adults living with parents. The percentage of young adults living with their parents was 47 percent in February, and for most of 2019. The new data was released Friday.The research firm compared the data to available census data, and found the census of 1940, taken toward the end of the Great Depression, reported 48 percent of young adults lived with their parents."The peak may have been higher during the worst of the Great Depression in the 1930s, but there is no data for that period,” researchers stated.The percentage of young adults living with their parents has been above 50 percent since April, slowly climbing. This is the first time the percentage has been above 50 since data became available in 1976.Earlier research from the group found one-in-ten young adults reported relocating temporarily or permanently because of the coronavirus pandemic. More than any other age group.The 18-to-29 age group was hit hard with pandemic-related job losses, service-sector job furloughs and college campus shutdowns. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is cracking down on glasses and contact prescribers who may try to stop you from shopping around.The FTC sent warning letters to almost 30 different eyeglass prescribers. The letters say the prescriber must give a copy of the prescription to the patient without them asking.They can't charge a special fee for doing that and they can’t force you to buy from them just because they did the examination.“However, there were a lot of prescribers that just weren't doing that,” said Linda Sherry, Director of National Priorities at Consumer Action. “If you asked for it, in most cases, you would get it. They also are required to post notices in the offices to say that you have a right to your prescription and a lot of prescribers we're not posting those notices.”Consumer Action is educating people on their eyeglass and contacts prescription rights. Sherry says prescriptions allow you to go online and to other eyeglass and contact sellers to shop for the best deal.Another thing she says to ask for, especially if you're shopping online, is pupil distance. It may not be on the prescription.“I had an experience where I asked for the pupil distance and was told that would be to put the pupil distance on, so I was like, ‘I've been coming here for three years and you've obviously measured my pupil distance, because I bought glasses from you. So, all you have to do is open your records and tell me my pupil distance.’ And they did do it, but there was that moment there when she said for the pupil distance measurement when I thought, ‘oh, something's very, very wrong here.’”Prescribers shouldn't be charging for that info either.If you're having trouble getting prescription information from your provider, you can contact the FTC. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics released preliminary data on Monday, which shows U.S. airlines carried almost twice as many passengers in June than in May. According to the news release, BTS said data collected showed that 16.3 million passengers flew on large airlines in June, up from 8.4 million on all U.S. airlines in May.The BTS said airlines carried 80% fewer passengers in June than it did exactly one year ago.The data was by 20 airlines that carry 90% of the passengers, the agency said."June 2020 was the second consecutive month that the annual decrease in the number of U.S. airline passengers was less than annual change in the previous month," BTS reported.According to the agency, preliminary data showed a 77% decline in domestic passengers between June 2019 to June 2020 following more substantial annual reductions in May (88%) and April (96%).Preliminary data showed that international passengers on U.S. airlines declined 96% from June 2019 to June 2020, following annual decreases of 99% in April and 98% in May, the agency said.BTS says final U.S. airline traffic reports for June will be released on Sept. 11.
