SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A scary looking fish with dagger-like teeth was discovered Wednesday on the shores of Dog Beach in Ocean Beach. The four-foot-long fish isn't something people usually find while fishing off a local pier or even walking along the coast. And before imaginations run wild, it isn't a monster — well, not quite.The fish is a lancetfish, which typically call the dark depths of the ocean home. There, the fish feed on jellyfish, micro plastic, tiny deepwater organisms, and even smaller lancetfish, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).RELATED: Rattlesnake season officially begins in Southern California(There's the monster aspect.)With sharp fangs and prehistoric spikes, the fish appears to look like an ancient creature from the time of dinosaurs.That may or may not be the case. Not a lot is known about the mysterious fish, according to NOAA, save for information on their diets and places they call home. And despite their place in the ocean's depths, fisherman may sometimes catch more lancetfish than tuna or mahi. NOAA says the fish is actually the most common bycatch in their fisheries, besides blue sharks.You may not want to try grilling up the fish either. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A suspicious package discovered at Naval Air Station North Island forced military investigators to close the base's Main Gate on Monday morning.The closure at base, located on the northside of the Coronado peninsula, created major delays along the Coronado Bridge and into the base."North Island Naval Air Station main gate has been closed, expect delays in the area," the Coronado Police Department tweeted.Officials kept the remaining two gates at the base were left open during the investigation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An apartment building was badly damaged following a two-alarm fire in Serra Mesa Thursday afternoon. According to firefighters, the blaze started at an apartment complex on the 3300 block of Ruffin Road around 1:20 p.m. Once they arrived on scene, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in 20 minutes. A total of two units, one on the first floor and another on the second, burned in the fire. Two additional units were later determined to have been involved in the blaze. Two adults and two children were displaced from one of the units while two adults and two pets were displaced from the other. SDFD crews have put out a fire at an apartment complex at 3399 Ruffin Rd. Firefighters searched the two apartments involved and no one was inside. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego-based company is ramping up its production of ventilators to meet rising demand around the world. ResMed is primarily known for its devices to aid sleep apnea. However it also has a line of ventilators, which have now become their primary focus.“Our goal is to have 2 to 3 times or more of our global manufacturing capacity in a few weeks, then push beyond that,” said Mick Farrell, CEO of ResMed.Farrell says they began increasing production in January when the outbreak was spreading in China. They’ve now ramped up ventilator and ventilator mask production at all of their facilities. Farrell would not say how many they will be able to provide to American hospitals but said they have been in conversation with the federal government and other suppliers to meet the challenge. “We think between us and our competitors we can keep up on the demand that is needed for ventilators,” said Farrell. On Wednesday, San Diego County health officials said half of the region’s ventilators were currently being used but more were on the way. However, they did not provide specific numbers on how many were available. When asked if he thinks there will be enough, Rob Sills with the county’s medical operations center said, “We don’t know what the final number is going to be, we don’t know how many we are going to need. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Seattle man injured in an ATV accident in Mexico has died in a San Diego hospital, according to his family.Chad Carrico was on a cruise October 10 when he chose to leave the ship for a day trip in Ensenada.Carrico and friends rented ATV’s, according to his mother Theresa.
