Twenty-five people have been hospitalized in the same area of Brooklyn after having negative reactions from what's believed to be synthetic marijuana known as K2, according to Lt. Paul Ng with the New York Police Department.There have been no fatalities, Ng said Saturday night. According to police, the hospitalizations began Saturday evening and continued over the course of several hours.Among those hospitalized, 15 people were treated at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull in Brooklyn. As of Sunday morning, about half of them had been released and the others were in the emergency room "under observation," hospital spokeswoman Ana Marengo said.Police are investigating drug activity in the area of Brooklyn where the illnesses were centered, and attempting to locate any more victims and also drug dealers, Ng said.He said while police cannot say for certain that the synthetic drug caused the illnesses, that is what investigators suspected. 954

Two young brothers in Peoria, Arizona, are hoping to bring smiles to COVID-19 patients by sending homemade cards to Valley hospitals.Hurshneet and Pravneet Chadha said they created "Project Smile AZ" to spread positivity. They got the idea after listening to their parents, who are both doctors, speak about COVID-19 patients going through treatment alone in hospitals."We wanted to make them feel accompanied on their journey to get better," said 15-year-old Hurshneet. "We want to make sure everyone is fine, and we want to make sure everyone is happy."When they started, they delivered 150 cards to Banner Health. The response was so great that they decided to keep going."We've had many people reach out to us to send cards to our PO box, as well as hospital CEOs have reached out to us, sending us thank you letters to our email so that made us very proud," he said.Now, they've distributed 1,200 cards to the Navajo Nation, Circle the City, a nonprofit, and several hospitals in the Valley."It helps the patients when we give it to them, and they're saying they put a smile on their faces when they receive them as well, so that's my favorite part," said 12-year-old Pravneet.Through social media, they've gotten classmates and other groups to donate cards, but they make most of them in their living room."We come up with anything that we think would inspire the patient," said Hurshneet. He is known to like the Balboa Park area where SDPD officers were searching late Thursday.Jacob is described as a white male, 5'11", weighing 160 pounds, and as having long brown hair. (KGTV) — At a high school football game in Valley Center, emotions spilled off the field at halftime, as a head coach got into an altercation with the grandfather of player.Last week, under the Friday night lights at Valley Center High, the visiting squad from Imperial High made a big play in the second quarter."The other team ran past us for 50 yards. The student just didn't get the tackle, so they got the touchdown," said cheerleader Isela Zepeda.Zepeda says it was clear an assistant coach wasn't happy with the player."I heard that the assistant coach grabbed him, pushed him to the bench and started yelling at him," said Zepeda.Fast forward to halftime near the snack bar, as senior Jennifer Perez was coming out of the bathroom."Heard a lot of yelling. Saw a big crowd," said Zepeda. Witnesess say the grandfather of that player involved in the touchdown confronted the assistant coach. "He started choking him out," said Zepeda.Nearby was longtime head coach Rob Gilster."Heard he punched him to get him off. Then I heard he didn't punch him. Bunch of different stories," said senior Yesenia Zepeda, whose brother witnessed part of the fight.Deputies say bystanders broke up the fight. Sources tell 10News the grandfather suffered broken bones in his eye socket. Deputies took statements, but none of the men wanted to press charges and there wasn't enough evidence to make any arrests.The Valley Center Pauma Unified School District confirmed they've begun an investigation. 10News has learned both coaches were placed on administrative leave. 1588

Two of Mississippi's top elected Republicans proposed Wednesday that the Confederate battle emblem be replaced on the state flag with the words “In God We Trust," seeking a path toward unity in their state amid the backdrop of national protests over racial injustice.Mississippi has the only state flag that includes the Confederate battle emblem — a red field topped by a blue X with 13 white stars. White supremacists in the Legislature chose the design in 1894 as backlash for the political power African Americans gained during Reconstruction after the Civil War.Mississippi voters chose to keep the flag in a 2001 statewide election, but the design has remained contentious. Elsewhere in the country, debate has sharpened as Confederate monuments and statues recalling past slavery have been toppled by protesters or deliberately removed by authorities amid a groundswell against racial inequities.Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and Attorney General Lynn Fitch issued separate statements Wednesday about the flag.
