RABAT, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who is on a five-nation African tour, held talks Monday with his Moroccan counterpart Taieb Fassi Fihri on ways to upgrade relations between the two countries.     The two spoke highly of the abundant achievements that have been made in bilateral cooperation in various fields, mainly in politics, economy and trade, culture and health, since the establishment of diplomatic ties 52 years ago, an official press release gained by Xinhua said.     It said the two ministers agreed to continuously promote the upgrading of China-Morocco friendly ties by enhancing political mutual trust, deepening cooperation, expand people-to-people exchanges and strengthening coordination in international and regional issues.     After the talks, the two top diplomats signed a China-Morocco joint communique on Morocco's recognition of China's market economy status.     Yang is on his first official foreign visit of the year that includes five African nations, namely Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Algeria and Morocco, as well as Saudi Arabia.     It has been China's tradition for 20 years that its foreign minister visits Africa in the beginning of the year.

LANGFANG, Hebei Province, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao on Friday urged Party committees and governments at all levels to make issues related to agriculture, rural areas and farmers top priority of their agenda and called for increased investment in these areas.     During a visit to villages in China's northern Hebei Province Friday, Hu called for efforts to develop modern agriculture by relying on the progress of science and technology and make sure that farmers have increasing incomes.     The president said this year's No. 1 document of the CPC Central Committee will include a batch of new policies to support agricultural development.     Hu spent time inquiring about the livelihood of local farmers and conveyed New Year greetings to them. BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Monday called on health authorities to ensure safety in the production, storage, transportation, and inoculation process of the vaccines against A/H1N1 influenza, for the health of the public.     Li made the remarks when visiting the Beijing-based National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products, where the country's self-developed vaccines against the A/H1N1 flu are tested. China is the world's first country to issue a production license for the vaccines against the A/H1N1 flu.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua)-- The United States welcomes the peaceful development of cross-Straits ties and "more positive and stable" cross-Straits relations, said a China-US Joint Statement issued here Tuesday.     The statement said that both sides underscored the importance of the Taiwan issue in China-US relations.     The Chinese side emphasized that the Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed the hope that the US side will honor its relevant commitments and appreciate and support the Chinese side's position on this issue.     The US side stated that the United States follows its one-China policy and abides by the principles of the three Sino-US joint communiques, said the statement.     The two sides reiterated that "the fundamental principle of respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity is at the core of the three Sino-US joint communiques which guide China-US relations. Neither side supports any attempts by any force to undermine this principle," said the statement.     The two sides agreed that respecting each other's core interests is extremely important to ensure steady progress in China-US relations.     Both countries believe that to nurture and deepen bilateral strategic trust is essential to China-US relations in the new era.     The US side reiterated that it welcomes a strong, prosperous and successful China that plays a greater role in world affairs.     The two sides are of the view that in the 21st century, global challenges are growing, countries are more interdependent, and theneed for peace, development and cooperation is increasing. China and the U.S. have an increasingly broad base of cooperation and share increasingly important common responsibilities on many major issues concerning global stability and prosperity.     The two sides should further strengthen coordination and cooperation, work together to tackle challenges and promote world peace, security and prosperity, said the statement.     The two sides reiterated that they are committed to building a positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-US relationship for the 21st century, and will take concrete actions to steadily build a partnership to address common challenges.     During their discussions, the Chinese side said that it resolutely follows the path of peaceful development and a win-win strategy of opening-up, and is committed to promoting the building of a harmonious world of enduring peace and common prosperity.     The U.S. is committed to working with other countries in addressing the most difficult international problems they face, said the statement.     China welcomes the United States as an Asia-Pacific nation that contributes to the peace, stability and prosperity in the region.     The statement was signed during U.S. President Barack Obama' s visit to China between November 15 and 18. 

XI'AN, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has called for more efforts to carry forward the Yan'an Spirit and stay realistic and pragmatic to build the Party.     Yan'an, a city in northwestern Shaanxi Province, served as the CPC-led revolutionary base during the 1930s-40s before the Communist Party of China (CPC) took power in 1949.     To promote the Yan'an Spirit, the primary thing is to adhere to correct political direction, said Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, during a tour in Shaanxi from Nov. 13 to 16.
