SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Family entertainment center Boomers! is reopening its Vista location this weekend with health and safety modifications in place.The location on 1525 W. Vista Way was closed over three months ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but on Saturday, June 20, guests will be allowed to return.In a press release, officials said, “Boomers Vista will build upon its longstanding commitment to cleanliness and safety by implementing a series of measures following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and best practices within the amusement and attractions industries.”The following measures will be in place at the Vista facility:-- The center and mini golf course will operate under limited capacity-- Face coverings/masks required for all guests and staff members; kids under 3 won’t be required to wear face coverings, guests can remove masks when eating-- Employees will be we wearing personal protective equipment such as face shields and gloves-- Six feet of social distancing between parties are required; markers are posted throughout the property, including parking lots and entrances-- Temperature checks will be conducted for all guests and workers upon entry-- Guests and all staff are being asked to frequently wash hands-- Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the center-- Staff will carry out frequent sanitization of high-touch surfaces and rides and high-traffic locationsFacility General Manager Garrett Gross said, “The health and safety of our Guests and Team Members continues to be our number one priority as we work to welcome guests back to the Park. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- For over a decade, SDSU associate professor of chemistry Gregory Holland has been researching spiders and particularly black widow’s silk.They’ve come to the realization, through their research, that the properties of black widow silk are stronger than steel and tougher than the Kevlar in bulletproof vests.Gregory Holland, SDSU associate professor of analytical chemistry and Northwestern chemistry professor Nathan Gianneschi said their collaboration shows the organization of the molecules involved in silk production is more complex than previously thought.There are companies that use synthetic spider silk but its the specific black widow spider silk that has the top tier benefits.“The synthetic spider silk its not a bad material, its just not as good as the real thing," Holland said.Holland says the company that creates synthetic silk actually has partnerships with Adidas and Patagonia. "The most important thing is a spider does it low energy, environmentally friendly. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hillcrest will soon be home to San Diego’s first rainbow crosswalk to represent the community’s role in LGBTQ+ history. The rainbow crosswalk, similar to those in cities like San Francisco and Seattle, will be located at Normal Street and University Avenue. “The installation of a rainbow crosswalk has been a long-standing goal of the San Diego LGBTQ+ community. Hillcrest deserves a visual representation of the LGBTQ+ movement and its goals of visibility, acceptance and inclusion,” said Councilmember Chris Ward’s office. A celebratory event called “Catwalk on the Crosswalk” will take place Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. The San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus and Women’s Chorus will perform and cupcakes will be provided by Babycakes. Following the event, a reception will be held at Hillcrest Brewing Company. Councilmember Ward, Senate President pro Tempore Toni G.
