BONITA (KGTV) - A Bonita man is seeking the public's help to find the people responsible for ransacking his family home last Tuesday night.Michael Currier grew up on San Miguel Road in Bonita and once you understand his family's history it's easy to see why this home means so much.A couple doors down is where his mother and uncles were raised, at grandpa's house. His mother stayed close to care for grandma who had Alzheimer's and when the house went on the market, Currier and his wife pulled together what they could to keep it in the family.They bought the home in 2013 and have been renovating. He and his wife are now taking care of his mother, who also has Alzheimer's, so they weren't home last Tuesday night.Currier came home Wednesday and found it barren. All the construction tools in each room, gone. Incredibly rare parts he was using to build specialty motorcycles, gone too. Shelves full of black bins barren, with dust outlining where they sat for years."The parts that were stolen are irreplaceable. Those motorcycles, I'll never be able to work on again," Currier said.Currier worked as a contractor to pay for nursing school, and collected tools since he was 15. While he's glad no one was hurt from the break-in, what he lost was more than items on a list."Definitely makes you feel a little uncomfortable in your own house in your own neighborhood which is frustrating especially when you grew up in this area and this has always been a home, a safe place," he said.He filed a report with the San Diego County Sheriff's Office and they are looking into the incident.In the meantime, Currier's resorted to hanging signs, with a reward for information, around the neighborhood. 1726

Beginning in 2024, there will be new standards for nominees of the coveted Best Picture Academy Award. The changes are meant to encourage equitable representation and “better reflect the diversity of the movie-going audience,” according to the Academy.In order for a film to qualify to be a Best Picture nominee, they must meet two of four new representation and inclusion standards. It’s part of Academy Aperture 2025, an initiative by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that sets specific inclusion goals for the organization and the films it recognizes.Movies wishing to be considered for Best Picture in 2022 and 2023 will need to submit a form attesting to their inclusion and representation practices, however meeting the specific Academy standards will not be required until the 96th Oscars in 2024.The standards include having at least 30 percent of all actors on-screen from at least two underrepresented groups, having a storyline or theme that centers on underrepresented group(s); as well as efforts behind the camera like having representation from underrepresented groups in creative leadership and department head positions, overall crew composition, and paid internship and apprenticeship opportunities for underrepresented groups.“The aperture must widen to reflect our diverse global population in both the creation of motion pictures and in the audiences who connect with them,” said Academy President David Rubin and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. “We believe these inclusion standards will be a catalyst for long-lasting, essential change in our industry.”Another change fans will notice in 2021, the Best Picture category will be limited to ten nominees, rather than a fluctuating number year-to-year.Here is the full list of standards from the Academy. Believe it or not, some people working from home are starting to miss their morning commute, so much so that they’ve started “fake commutes” and experts are applauding the decision.“At first I didn’t miss it. I thought ‘oh well my workday starts as soon as I wake up,’ which was nice at the time,” said Joshua Chickasawa.Chikasawa is an accountant who went from an hour long, 10-mile, bike ride to work each day, to work at his fingertips within minutes. However, after a few weeks that got old.“Even though I don’t have to bike to an actual destination or anything like that, I have been going on a bike ride for an hour or so,” said Chikasawa. “Sometimes, I’ll bike by the office I am supposed to be at.”He’s now getting up again at 5 a.m. and does, his “fake commute.”“It is just forcing myself to get out of bed, so I am actually going outside and having a real start to my day like I used to,” he added, “instead of just rolling to my laptop and starting the work day without having any real distance between my personal life and work.”You might be surprised how normal these fake commutes are becoming.“I have actually heard this from some of my friends and colleagues,” said Jon Jachimowicz.Jachimowicz is a professor at Harvard University.“There is this tension that we are experiencing right now where we are actually beginning to understand that even though we hate the commute in yester-year time when we actually went to the office, there was also something valuable about it,” said Jachimowicz.The professor recently published research showing one of the biggest benefits was the time the commute gave us to transition between personal life and work. Also, that the transition period in this new normal can effectively be replicated with a fake commute or new before and after work ritual.“I don’t think it actually matters what exactly it is,” said Jachimowicz. “It can be something as easy as putting on work clothes, which is what I do.”Companies are even starting to see the need for this. Microsoft recently announced it’s adding a virtual commute feature to its Teams platform to help workers transition in and out of work mode. BONSALL, Calif. (KGTV) - Neighbors in Bonsall who survived the Lilac Fire are anxious about the impending hot, dry, windy weekend.The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Wildfire Warning starting at 10 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday."With it being so hot the next couple days yeah I'm pretty much on high alert," Neighbor Kimberly Marrs said.She was there in December 2017 when her neighborhood lit up. She said homes a quarter mile away burned down.The Lilac fire burned 4,100 acres, destroyed 114 houses and damaged 55, and killed more than 45 horses according to fire officials.Giving Marrs reason to be hyper-aware, "I'm super diligent. I'm always looking at the sky and paying attention... Especially when it gets this extremely hot, especially having gone through the lilac fire, in the middle of it, I get a lot of anxiety from it and that's why I stay on top of it because I want to be super prepared."She said Saturday morning she is going to fill up her gas tank and coordinate with friends so everyone is ready to evacuate at a moments' notice. Another concern she has this weekend is the power staying on."I'll charge everything up in the morning and pull all the plugs in the afternoon... I think there's going to be a just a huge surge in power this weekend so we need to not blow the grid," she said smiling.The California Independent Systems Operator (CAISO), which manages the state's electric grid, issued a Flex Alert for the weekend. They're telling people to avoid heavy energy usage between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. from Friday through Monday.Marrs hopes everyone takes her message as motivation to stay safe this weekend, "pray we don't have extreme Santa Anas, we get through this heat wave, stay cool, stay indoors, stay hydrated." 1764
