The smell has finally started to fade inside Salazar's place, and they can begin renovations.But there's something else that's made Harvey--and losing his apartment-- that much tougher for Salazar."When I came in here, I just started crying, like I was hurt. This is my house, the place I shared with my mom."Salazar shared the cozy one bedroom with his mother up until her death just over a year ago. She had Leukemia, and for a while it had appeared she'd beaten it, thanks to Salazar; he was the bone marrow donor."And then the cancer came back."She died soon after."I mean, I never really lived on my own until this past past year. It was difficult the first couple of months, and it still is."It was so hard in fact that Salazar had to put most of what reminded him of her--family photographs on the walls and tables--and hide them on the top shelf of his closet. "There was just a lot of memories there, and I just felt depressed every time I saw them."But heading home to take stock in what stayed dry, Salazar takes down the boxes of photos--some of his mother's most cherished possessions, now his, too. Harvey, he says, is his turning point. He's quick to stress that he'll always be thinking about her, but no longer will he feel the need to dwell on his mother's death."This flood is actually--it's kind of a good thing because, you know, I can rebuild and make the apartment my place and my home," he said, welling up with emotion. "It's going to give me a chance to move forward and be able to come home and relax, instead of always thinking about my mom."And you can bet that after Salazar decides which photos to display on his walls once more, the boxes with the others will go back up onto the tallest shelf he can find."They're safe with me." 2944

(KGTV) - A member of the migrant caravan was arrested in Tijuana on suspicion of throwing rocks over the U.S.-Mexico border fence toward contractors working on the wall.The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, as crews were in the Imperial Beach area. The contractors left and agents arrived to provide security, Customs and Border Protection officials said. No contractors or agents were hit and the wall was not damaged, according to the CBP.When the man threw another rock across the border, agents alerted Tijuana Police to arrest him.CBP said the man was a 27-year-old Honduran national. The film won an award for best directing at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.The film reportedly does feature young girls in the crew performing indelicate dance moves. According to the director, the film is meant to spark discussion about how social media pressures girls as they come of age.Tthe film faced controversy when Netflix released a promotional photo that featured young girls in provocative dance poses in August. Netflix quickly removed the artwork and apologized, but the poster sparked an online movement to #CancelNetflix. The film debuted on Netflix last week, further fanning the flames of the controversy.According to The New York Times, the trend was pushed with the help of supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory — a baseless conspiracy that claims President Donald Trump is fighting the "deep state" and a secret powerful cabal of pedophiles and cannibals. He needs more space in his refrigerator."This is one we've had since we built the house 17 years ago," he said.Like many families during this pandemic, he wants to stock up on frozen beef and chicken."We thought we would just invest in a freezer we would put in the garage, so we started to look."But finding a freezer was tougher than finding Nemo."We have been searching all summer long, nine months, for a freezer," Conougher told us in a Zoom interview from his kitchen."And even when the big box stores have their specials, they don't have them in stock."Many brands, price ranges affectedIt doesn't matter if you are looking for a freezer, refrigerator, range, oven, or washing machine.It also doesn't matter if your budget is 0 or ,000, or what brand you want (though American brands like Whirlpool and Maytag appear to be in better shape than European or Korean brands).You are going to find spot shortages just about everywhere, according to Ken Reiman, co-owner of an appliance distributor.He supplies builders and remodelers, who he says now have to delay finishing some projects due to ongoing shortages."When I check our vendor websites," he said, "they are just not available."He says the shortages that started when factories shut down for two months early in 2020 have not let up."For instance," Reiman explained, "they will give an estimated time of December 5, and December 6 comes around and they have moved to January."Why the shortage hasn't endedReiman says there are 3 reasons for the current shortages.Originally, it was factory shutdowns in March, April and May, along with delays getting appliances shipped from China during that time.The second reason is shortages of foreign-made parts, such as wiring harnesses and compressors, which forces U.S. factories to shut down their assembly lines until product arrives.The third reason is high demand, as people spend their vacation dollars this year on their kitchens instead, Reiman said.His suggestion: Be flexible on brand and model."We have products coming in," he said. "Our warehouses are more stuffed now than ever.
