President Donald Trump observed the 16th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in ceremonies Monday at the Pentagon, promising that the United States will "prevail" and that the memory of those lost will "never, ever die.""On that day, not only did the world change but we all changed," Trump said at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial."Our eyes were opened to the depths of the evil we face but in that hour of darkness we also came together with renewed purpose. Our differences never looked so small. Our common bonds never felt so strong," he added. 581

President Donald Trump had immigration on his mind Wednesday morning, firing off a collection of tweets praising his administration's efforts.Trump started by hailing a court ruling on Tuesday that allowed his border wall to proceed, but seemed to acknowledge that no actual construction on any new border barriers can begin until Congress authorizes funds."I have decided that sections of the Wall that California wants built NOW will not be built until the whole Wall is approved. Big victory yesterday with ruling from the courts that allows us to proceed. OUR COUNTRY MUST HAVE BORDER SECURITY!" Trump tweeted.   629

President Donald Trump retweeted video Monday night that shows a man assaulting a department store clerk in Michigan."Looks what's going on here. Where are the protesters? Was this man arrested?" the president tweeted Monday night. The video was filmed inside a Macy's department store at the Genesee Valley Center Mall near Flint, Michigan. It shows a customer repeatedly hitting an employee, knocking him to the ground and hitting him again while repeatedly using the "N-word."The employee repeatedly tells the suspect that he's sorry throughout the video. On June 15, Flint Township police were called to the store around 5:45 p.m. Police say a store employee was assaulted by a man while a second man filmed it.Police say they're still gathering evidence. But the video spread quickly on social media, including on Twitter and YouTube. Looks what’s going on here. Where are the protesters? Was this man arrested? https://t.co/2E1UbU5vNN— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 23, 2020 Some social media posts allege the employee used a racial slur. Macy's responded with a statement saying, in part, "All the materials from the evening have been reviewed and it is clear the attack was unprovoked.""Macy's and mall management have added additional security to ensure our customers and colleagues can safely enjoy their shopping experience," the company's statement said.Flint Township police are looking for 18-year-old Damire Canell Palmer of Mount Morris, Michigan and 22-year-old Damarquay Jovan Palmer of Flint Township in connection with the case. President Donald Trump has been urged to stop tweeting about the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Trump's top advisers and several Russians, a source familiar with discussions tells CNN.The President was advised that his tweeting only gives oxygen to the topic, even if those around Trump do not believe there is any truly new development. On Sunday, Trump tweeted an apparent response to stories by CNN and The Washington Post that said he is worried about Donald Trump Jr.'s legal exposure following the infamous 2016 meeting. 535

President Donald Trump held a roundtable discussion in Dallas on Thursday, announcing that he plans on signing an executive order in the coming days to address police use of force and de-escalation. But the executive order will likely not fully satisfy those hoping to "Defund the Police."Trump’s announcement comes as a number of protesters are calling for a reduction in police funding, and to use funds for social and educational purposes, issues the president addressed during the roundtable.“We’ll encourage pilot programs that allow social workers to join certain law enforcement officers so that they work together,” Trump said.Trump also called for an expansion of school choice throughout the US, although such programs in the past have not received bipartisan support due to taking funds from public schools.“Access to education is the civil rights issue of our time,” Trump said.Expansion of school voucher programs has been part of Trump’s platform since the 2016 election, and one pushed by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who is a former charter school operator. But as far as reducing the size and scope of policing, it appears Trump will not give into those calls from protesters.Trump said he will “take care of our police” moving forward.“We’re not defunding police,” Trump said. “We’re going to go the other way.”A common call among protesters is to reduce the access to military-like equipment, but Trump said that he will give police the “best equipment.”Meanwhile, congressional Democrats are working toward a bill that would make it harder for local police forces to gain access to military-like vehicles as part of a sweeping police reform bill. The bill, however, does not go as far as proposing to defund the police. 1750
