CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A beloved South Bay preschool director is being remembered as someone who always made others feel special.Aaron Partch was a co-director at Concordia Preschool in Chula Vista. He passed away September 15th.A virtual memorial for him was held Saturday.Like many other schools, Concordia closed in March during the pandemic. A couple months after the school closure, Partch was diagnosed with grade four glioblastoma. He had undergone brain surgery and was receiving treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation. In mid-September, Partch passed away suddenly from a heart attack.“God took our warrior up to heaven where he no doubt is singing and dancing with the angels,” his family wrote online.His co-workers said his energy will be missed.“He knows everybody by name. His greetings were always extremely cheerful, but sincere. When he asked you how your day was, he wanted to know,” said preschool teacher Meagan Lee, who worked with Partch for the last two years. “I think it’s really hard for all of us to walk down the halls and know he’s not going to be there with us.”Partch had been with Concordia Preschool for more than ten years. Nearby schools also remembered him.“If you knew him, you knew what a loss this is not just for Concordia, but for our community as well. Aaron was one of those people who lit up a room. He filled every moment with happiness and joy, and he was such a great leader to his students,” the Enrique Camarena PTA wrote on Facebook.Partch was 51 years old. (KGTV) -- Hope, peace, unity and love are some of the simple words painted on rocks that Maria Gutierrez walked by each morning."I was thankful and I would look for more and more stones," Maria said.Maria just moved to the neighborhood and was surprised to learn who was behind those painted messages."One day I was walking my dogs and I saw Ava carrying a couple of stones and just quietly putting one down," Maria described.Ava is her neighbor, an 8-year-old doing her part in lifting others in difficult times."I’s because a lot of people aren’t happy right now. My mom and I were trying to make the people in our neighborhood happy," said Ava.I asked Ava what works like hope meant for her and she replied, "if someone doesn’t think they can do something, there’s hope they’ll make it."Her mom Cyndi said others neighbors have joined in their "rocks of hope" movement."We noticed other stones placed around the tree. It was cool because other people starting doing it as well," Cyndi said.Maria moved to Eastlake last month and said Ava's efforts showed how helpful and hopeful her neighborhood could be."It made me smile and I didn't really know anybody here. (KGTV) - A South Bay mom says the dinner she ordered using a food delivery app never arrived, and the driver couldn't be tracked down."It was my second time using the app," said Melissa Stone.Last Sunday, when Stone's kids had a craving for burgers and fries, she signed into her Grubhub app and ordered an early dinner from Bull Chicks in Chula Vista. An hour passed, but there was no food."Went onto the app, checked the delivery status, and it said it was delivered," said Stone.Confused, she checked her front door but didn't see any deliveries. She called the restaurant. An employee told her her food had been picked up by the driver 15 minutes earlier. She asked for the driver's information and got a woman's name and number. Stone says she tried to contact the driver, but the number was disconnected."I'm upset and hangry at this point," said Stone.She says when complained to Grubhub, they didn't have any answers but gave her a refund."I think somebody was hungry, took my food and ate it," said Stone.Melissa posted the incident on Facebook and got several responses from local Grubhub customers with similar stories, including one involving a male driver who reportedly picked up the food but didn't deliver it."They never received their food," said Stone.And they may not be alone. According to a 2019 survey by US Foods, nearly 30% of drivers with food delivery apps, admit to snacking or stealing the food they're responsible for delivering. A Gruhhub spokesperson issued the following statement:"Our mission is to connect hungry diners with great, local restaurants. We always want our diners to have the best experience possible, and the vast majority of our 450,000 orders each day are completed without incident or complaints. But when things don’t go as planned, we appreciate hearing feedback and work hard to make it right.We looked into the two orders brought to our attention and found they are separate, isolated incidents. Both diners were helped by our customer care team and received refunds for the affected orders and promo codes for future orders. We did not find any evidence of misconduct by our drivers during either of the deliveries.Overall, we have zero tolerance for misconduct from our delivery partners, and we work to immediately resolve incidents. Our drivers sign a contract before partnering with us that makes it clear that misconduct is not permitted. As a matter of practice, we do extensive motor vehicle and criminal background checks before contracting with a driver, and we periodically re-run these checks while any driver is contracted with us." 2628

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A new exhibit at the Chula Vista Library's Heritage Museum is telling the stories of the South Bay's Holocaust Survivors."History repeats itself, and if you don't recall it, then it's going to happen again," says Curator Sandra Scheller.The exhibit, "RUTH: Remember Us The Holocaust," focuses on Scheller's mother, Ruth. She survived three concentration camps before coming to Chula Vista. It also features 11 other survivors who called the area home over the last 70+ years.Scheller says only five survivors are left in the South Bay, and she wants to make sure no one forgets what they went through, or how they made Chula Vista a better place throughout their lives."This was a labor of love," Scheller says. "I've loved every second of it."The exhibit features photos of the survivors, artifacts from Jewish life before, during and after the Holocaust, and personal touches from Scheller's family. It includes replicas of the yellow stars her grandparents wore during World War II, clothing and even a tooth from her grandmother."She had to break this tooth out because it had some gold in it," Scheller explains. "The Nazis would have killed her for this gold."The exhibit opens Sunday, January 12 and will remain on display throughout the year. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - At least one man was injured in a traffic collision today on southbound Interstate 805 near East Palomar Street in Chula Vista, the California Highway Patrol said.At 11:10 a.m., a pickup truck flipped onto its side in a crash with a larger truck hauling boxes, according to a CHP incident log. The man was out of his pickup truck bleeding from a head wound.The larger truck continued southbound on I-805 after the crash, the CHP reported. The crash blocked two right lanes and traffic in the area was backed up, CHP officers on the scene said.No further information was immediately available. 620
