KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police shot and killed a man who fired at officers outside a burning Kansas City home early Monday morning. Investigators said they later found a woman dead inside the house, after first discovering a dead woman outside, according to KCPD.A police spokesperson said several people were involved in a shooting around 2 a.m. In an update at 4:45 a.m., police said officers shot and killed an "active shooter" outside the home.“The suspect came out the house, fired shots at the officers who returned fire, stopping the suspect. The house started smoking. The fire department put out the fire and discovered another body,” explained Captain Lionel Colon with KCPD.Police said the house fire appeared to have been set intentionally but did not provide details on whether it was related to the shooting.It was not immediately clear how the victims died or what led up to the shooting. Police did not immediately identify anyone involved in the incident.A woman who identified herself as the aunt of the man police killed told 41 Action News her nephew killed her niece and the mother of his child. Even eight hours after the shooting, crime scene tape covered a block in each direction around an intersection, not far from the Truman Sports Complex. At one point, police had tape tied to Sarah Jones’s home. She said she got home late from work Sunday night and was still awake when gunshots erupted. She called police and a few minutes later heard another round of gunfire. “I got the kids, told them to get to the lowest point of the house. We were trying to get down to the basement just crawling across the floor. (KGTV) - Crews worked to clear flooding on the campus of UC San Diego caused by a heavy storm moving through the county.Campus police responded just after 6:30 a.m. and placed sandbags near the entrance of the Student Health and Wellness Center. During that time, the water was about ankle deep to the officer’s boots. There were also reports of a parking garage flooded. Jenna Ellis, a senior legal advisor for the Trump campaign, has reportedly contracted the coronavirus, according to multiple sources.Ellis has been traveling with President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani as the campaign challenges election results, unsuccessfully, in various states.Giuliani is currently in the hospital being treated for COVID-19.Ellis attended a White House Christmas party on Friday with senior staff, according to Axios. Her COVID-19 diagnosis has some worried whether she was contagious at the time of the party.Ellis came as a guest of Trump’s trade adviser Peter Navarro, and was not seen wearing a mask at the indoor event, according to sources who spoke to Axios.Ellis appeared to question the existence of the pandemic this summer, sending a tweet on August 30 that claimed "There is no pandemic." KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Plaza Academy teacher Justin Gillespie is bringing hip hop production to his classroom.The class is called ‘The Beat Academy of KC’ and is the 5th and 6th hour at school for students.“It's the only program in Kansas City that teaches kids how to make hip hop production,” Gillespie said.Gillespie launched the program back in August.“It's been something I've done in my personal life,” Gillespie said. “I've been a professional musician for 15 years and it's been super rewarding.”From beats to rhythms, students take their creativity to a whole new level.“I'm excited to go here everyday,” freshman Thom Van Til said. “I get joyful when I come here, like it helps me calm down,” 8th grader K’ron Lyons said.The class is producing more than just quality hip hop, it’s also producing higher grades and more engagement from students.“Justin would probably say you cannot perform because your grades is bad, so he encourages me to like make sure I do my work,” Lyons said.Students plan to perform what they’ve been working on at the Beat Academy Block Party alongside Kansas City hip hop artists like Ces Cru, JL & Info Gates, Adrian Truth and Suli4Q. The school is raising funds to build a recording studio this summer, to make more courses available to students next year.  1328
