"There has been a lot of messaging around disease prevention. And we now have really good drugs, biomedical interventions, to prevent HIV infection among people who are negative. And to prevent transmission among people who are positive." Make no mistake, Dr. Little makes clear the goal is to stop transmission of STDs. Especially HIV among young Hispanic men where cases are still on rise. But Dr. Little says the new approach is to make getting checked an inviting experience, that celebrates health and sex."I think the time as come to let people know they no longer have to worry about disease," says Dr. Little. "We need to try and promote a sex positive, status neutral, sexual health promotion, rather than disease prevention." "Get checked, then you can mate with anyone you want," says Vermillion. (KGTV) — At least 50,000 people were ordered to evacuate as multiple fires burned north of Los Angeles Thursday amid dangerously dry and windy conditions.The Tick Fire started about 2 p.m. in the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita and spread east to Agua Dulce. Cal Fire reported about 8:30 p.m. the fire had spread to 3,950 acres. Several structures were lost. As of 6:20 p.m., firefighters had slowed the fire's progress.Mandatory Tick Fire evacuations are in effect for all residents north of 14 freeway, east of Whites/Plum Canyon, south of Vasquez Canyon, west of Agua Dolce. (KGTV) -- A small plane was forced to land on a freeway in San Clemente Monday, but no injuries were reported and no vehicles were hit.According to the California Highway Patrol, the emergency landing was reported shortly before 12:50 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near Basilone Road, north of Camp Pendleton.CHP officials said the pilot was flying from John Wayne Airport in Orange County to San Diego’s Montgomery Field when his plane began having mechanical issues while over Camp Pendleton.The pilot, who has 18 years of flying experience, was aware he needed to land immediately and considered Highway 101 [Old Pacific Highway parallel to I-5] as an emergency landing spot before choosing I-5, according to the CHP.The pilot was able to wait for a break in vehicles before guiding the aircraft safely onto the freeway. The plane landed and came to a stop on the No. 4 lane before it was eventually moved to the right shoulder.The aircraft remained on the shoulder and off the freeway lanes as of 2:20 p.m.The pilot, who was the aircraft's only occupant, was unhurt, an FAA official told ABC 10News. (KGTV) — An asteroid discovered by Palomar Observatory is set to make a pass by Earth the day before the 2020 U.S. election.The asteroid, dubbed "2018 VP1," was first noticed by the San Diego County observatory on Nov. 3, 2018, according to data from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. It's estimated to measure about 5.9 and 12.8 feet in diameter.NASA is currently forecasting that the space rock will come between 4,800 to 260,000 miles of our atmosphere on Nov. 2. For comparison, the International Space Station is about 254 miles above the planet.The probability of 2018 VP1 impacting our planet is 1 in 240 or about 0.41%.NASA keeps a running list of potential asteroid threats to the planet. Currently, there are no immediate threats listed on the agency's website. The largest known risk is a 4,200-foot wide asteroid with a 0.012% chance of hitting Earth in 860 years. 884

(KGTV) -- Foot Locker is helping voters get a leg up this election year.The athletic retailer is partnering with the nonprofit Rock the Vote to turn all of its U.S. stores into temporary voter registration sites.Beginning Sept. 22, Foot Locker will have registration kiosks with a website where visitors can check their voter status, register to vote or sign up for election reminders.The company has more than 2,000 stores in the U.S., including seven locations in San Diego County.Foot Locker says the initiative is targeted at the more than 4 million young Americans eligible to vote this year. CEO Richard Johnson said the goal is to “educate and amplify the voices of today's youth.”Kids Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker, Champs Sports, and Footaction will also house kiosks. 785
