(KGTV) It is no secret that restaurants throughout San Diego County have been struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic, but one restaurant in Otay Ranch was forced to close before it ever had its grand opening, just as the pandemic was starting. Hurricane Grill and Wings was supposed to open sometime between late January and early February, but when the pandemic started, it delayed everything. The owner Abu Syed is now getting ready to open the restaurant on Monday, September 28th.The restaurant will open at just 25% capacity indoors and patio seating outdoors. Like so many other restaurant owners, Syed says the landlord did give them a break on rent, but will owe it at the end of their lease. The restaurant is staffed with 32 employees, 16 of them are full-time.In August, the California Restaurant Association projected that close to 30% of restaurants in the state could close for good because of the pandemic. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating two violent incidents that occurred at Chula Vista’s Otay Ranch Town Center in recent weeks.The Chula Vista Police Department is asking for the public’s help as they try to find the people suspected in a stabbing incident on Sept. 25 and an assault on Oct. 2 that happened at the mall on 2015 Birch Rd.In the Sept. 25 incident, at around 6 p.m., two people were approached by a group of four people, and then “three of the subjects began assaulting one of the victims,” police said.Police said one victim was stabbed in the back of the leg and had their backpack stolen. The other victim was not hurt, but one of the assailants took their cell phone.According to police, the incident was captured on video and shared on social media. The suspects in this case were described by police as Black male juveniles.In the Oct. 2 incident, a person was with friends at the mall when he was approached by about eight juveniles. Police said, “One of the suspects then punched the victim and a second suspect stole the victim’s Boston Red Sox baseball hat. (KGTV) — Six people were arrested Tuesday during a demonstration over flu shots for detained migrants.More than 100 people, many of whom are medical professionals, gathered outside Chula Vista's Customs and Border Protection headquarters to call for a meeting over healthcare policies for detainees. Demonstrators say doctors offering free flu clinic services at the Chula Vista Border Patrol Station on Monday were turned away. The group added that a free pilot program was also rejected by the Trump Administration.Tuesday, some protesters took to lying across the headquarters driveway during the demonstration, prompting authorities to declare the gathering an unlawful assembly. Demonstrators were given six minutes to disperse, before officers arrested the six individuals.Demonstrators say the lack of flu clinic services for those inside detention centers poses a health risk to them and the public."Flu deaths are preventable and large scale vaccination is not unprecedented. Our government has undertaken similar efforts in the past and has the resources to do so now," doctor Marie DeLuca, of Doctors For Camp Closures, said. (KGTV) - A vandal that struck overnight in a Chula Vista neighborhood was apparently targeting high-end vehicles.The Jovel family first noticed something was wrong Sunday morning in front of their home along Via Escalante."Upsetting and bizarre," said Jesse Jovel.His sister saw a flat tire on his Mercedes SUV parked in the driveway and ran inside to tell him about it. Jovel came outside, saw the flat, but then found much more: scratches across the body and tires of the Mercedes."I thought it was not happening, that it was a joke," said Jovel.They ran to the street, where his sister's Mercedes was parked. "Her car was the same way, and the car behind it and the car behind it," said Jovel.One of those cars was Jovel's other vehicle, a Maserati Ghibli. It was also keyed all over. Two of its tires were sliced and flattened."Sad. Very sad that people are willing to do this just for the heck of it," said Jovel.Jovel says a total of at least six other vehicles were targeted. He barely looked at the others but remembers them being new and high-end vehicles. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Sweetwater Union High School District announced Thursday that it plans to reopen August 3.According to the district, only distance or virtual learning will be available on August 3. No on campus instruction will be available.On August 28, the district will transition to "Phase 1" where 10 percent of students will be allowed on campus at any given time.As public health orders permit, the campus will move into phase two, where 20 percent of students will be allowed on campus. Phase three will see 50 percent or more of students on campus plus "some activities." No timeline was given for phase two and three.According to the district, families who opt out will have the option to fully enroll in virtual instruction beginning August 28. 781
