One man said he was one of the fortunate people who have family support in case of an emergency. But his co-workers are not so lucky. Another employee told 10News that he is struggling as he enters his third week without a paycheck. Unable to pay his bills, he is charging everything onto new credit cards. "This shutdown, as all others prior, forces employees to use credit cards and other emergency funds, if applicable, in order to make ends meet until a resolution is met," Orozco said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the first time Tuesday, 12-year-old Kiera Latulippe faced the man who killed her entire family in a drunk driving crash. The Valley Center girl was in the car with her family headed to the Austin, Texas, airport after vacation when the drunk driver hit their car head-on. Her father, Scott; mother, Nancy, and 14-year-old brother, Jackson, all died. Kiera was the only one to survive. On Friday, Guy Brasted was sentenced to 18 years in prison. After the sentencing, Kiera and her uncle and legal guardian, Mark Latulippe, took the stand with an emotional message for Brasted. "It made me miss out on so much, like daddy daughter dances," Kiera said, listing the things she can't do now that her family has been ripped away from her. Everyday I think about him," Kiera said.Since the accident happened two years ago, Latulippe has taken his niece into his own care."I can't replace, I'm a fill-in parent for someone who has tragically had everything robbed from her in one moment," Latulippe says.Latulippe is a CHP officer for California Highway Patrol. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of veterans who bravely served our country reunited this week in San Diego.It was the first Midway Class Reunion, also known as the Three Sisters Reunion.Veterans who served on the USS Midway, USS Coral Sea, and USS Franklin D. Roosevelt were invited to attend. In addition to touring the ship veterans were able to look at commemorative books from their deployments. “They get to meet others, they get to swap sea stories as we say in the Navy, get to swap sea stories with their friends and anyone willing to listen!” said a USS Midway Museum volunteer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Flooding from a fire service line threatened Wednesday to buckle a portion of a North Park street, blocks from the sites of several significant pipe breaks.The rupture was reported about 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Polk Avenue and Kansas Street. The road buckled about 12 inches and water spilled onto half the roadway.Within an hour, the water department reached the scene to evaluate the situation. A city spokesperson tells 10News the break was on a fire service line, the pipe connecting a fire hydrant to a water main. They also said no one is without water, and that the break would be repaired the same day.
