SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The vision of SDSU's future home field is coming into focus after brand new renderings were unveiled Saturday at Aztec Football Fan Fest.This comes after a November ballot measure to redevelop the SDCCU Stadium site with a professional soccer stadium. It was handily rejected by voters, who favored a competing plan that will include a new stadium for San Diego State University football."We have designed a stadium that works for Aztec football, but it's going to work for soccer, it's going to work for concerts, the concourse was developed in a way that it's going to be able to be used 365 days a year," Athletics Director John David Wicker said.READ RELATED: Sources: SDSU meets with Major League SoccerWhen students saw the new plan, they were ecstatic, "that's so awesome! It would be amazing to finally fill the stadium for once because it feels empty but we know there's a bunch of people here," SDSU student Taylor Adams said.The new stadium would seat up to 35,000, position the student section behind the goal posts and create dining designed for students."That are discounted for them. Our goal is they'll be able to use their Red ID, the money that's on their Aztec dining plan that they can use there," Wicker said."I'm all for it because students are really on a budget out here," SDSU student Lindsy Peterson said. "I'm not trying to spend on water anymore," Adams added.The new stadium is projected to cost 0 million, according to officials. The Environmental Impact Report is accepting public comment through October, Wicker said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Police Departments K9 officers and their handlers were honored at the unveiling of the new K9 Memorial Dedication Ceremony Wednesday afternoon. They don’t carry weapons. Often times, they are the weapon.“We’ve had several dogs injured, stabbed, and shot,” Lt. Tony Lessa of the San Diego Police K9 Unit said. “Fortunately, only one was killed in the line of duty.”Since 1984, ninety-two San Diego Police K9’s have served alongside their handlers. They enter themselves into dangerous situations for the good of the community. Many said their value is immeasurable. “They improve officer safety for out officers in a way that they reduce the use of force we have to use,” Lt. Lessa said. “You can’t put a number on that.”That is why a new Memorial wall was built for the specialized unit. Sitting at the helm is a bronze statue of German Shepard Bando, who was struck by a car and killed in the line of duty in 1994. Underneath his statue are the names of several K9’s and their handlers.Patsy Samson was the main donor for the San Diego Police Foundation. She worked with the organization for eight months until finally unveiling the memorial today.“They love their K9’s,” Samson said. “They take care of their K9’s. They just want to do the best you can do for the community that they protect and serve, every single day.”Whether it’s their cuteness on their time off, or their fierce abilities to bring down criminals, the K9’s officers have a special place in hearts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three people were rescued from atop the border wall in San Diego Sunday evening, Border Patrol said Tuesday. According to a news release, agents spotted three people perched on top of the wall near Otay Mesa around midnight January 5. A man and two women reportedly tried to enter the U.S. illegally by climbing the wall amid dense fog. “The trio became stuck at the top of the wet, slippery wall after smugglers abandoned them,” the agency said. Border Patrol says all three people, a 36-year-old man, 20-year-old woman and 18-year-old woman, were Mexican Nationals. All three were taken to a Border Patrol station for processing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego City Council voted 6-3 Monday on an option for regulating marijuana use in San Diego, now that it is legal.Council members chose between two options. The first would have allowed testing of marijuana and marijuana products in labs in industrial and commercial zones that prohibit residential use.The second option, which passed, will allow testing plus cultivation, distribution and production of marijuana with a permit.  The activities will be allowed in light and heavy industrial zones.San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman urged the council to enforce option one with the strictest of controls.  The Chief cited the 11 current dispensaries as a public safety concern."We've fielded 273 radio calls from those establishments so far this year, everything from violent robberies to a shooting and those calls will increase," Zimmerman said. 911
