A woman was accused of hiding stolen items inside her shirt at a North Carolina Staples last week, prompting the manager to call for a police officer only to find out the woman is pregnant with twins, WSOC-TV reported. According to WSOC's report, Sherell Bates was shopping for back to school items at a Staples office supplies retailer in Pineville, N.C. She told WSOC that during her transaction at the register, an officer approached to see what was under her shirt. "Initially, I thought he was joking, so my response was, 'Twins,’” Bates said. “I'm 34 weeks with twins. I'm having a boy and a girl." The officer didn't buy the story. "At that point, to avoid him asking me again, I actually lifted my shirt just a little bit, just to expose my belly, so he could see that I'm just a regular pregnant person buying school supplies,” Bates told WSOC.Bates said that when confronted, the manager admitted that they asked the officer to investigate her. Bates said she hopes that Staples will provide sensitivity training to its employees. On Monday, Staples said it had fired the manager involved in the incident. A woman who was shopping at Heinen's grocery store in Bay Village, Ohio on Friday walked out of the store to find that her car was missing.As it turns out, another woman accidentally took the car home, thinking it belonged to her.According to Bay Village police, the two white Lexus cars were parked next to each other in the parking lot. A 60-year-old woman walked out and took one of the cars, thinking it was hers. When the other woman came out to get in her car, she realized it was gone. Police said the woman had left the keys in her car when she parked.The 60-year-old woman realized she was in the wrong car when she got home and was unable to open her garage. The car was returned to its rightful owner. 745

Almost two dozen people became trapped when a storm knocked over a large tree onto a detached garage, which collapsed. The victims were attending a child's birthday party, and had gone inside the garage when the storm started, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department."It literally sounded like a train coming down the tracks and I looked out the front door and I could see a funnel," said neighbor Dawn Redloff.Redloff describes the severe and sudden storm that hit her neighborhood in Pasadena Sunday afternoon, near Baltimore. Winds knocked down trees, power lines and blew out her front door and window.But nothing was as bad as her neighbor's home."It was heartbreaking," said Redloff.The Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials said a large tree fell on a detached garage during a child’s birthday party, injuring 19 and requiring major rescues."The guys were unreal, cutting the building apart, getting people out of there," said Redloff.When crews arrived, they found six people still trapped inside, all were removed within 45 minutes.According to the county, 19 adults and two children were injured and taken to four area hospitals. After the University of North Carolina opted last week to hold all undergraduate courses virtually, the university has seen 504 confirmed coronavirus cases since last Monday.The school’s student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel, first reported the significant outbreak.In the last week, the school’s COVID-19 positivity rate increased to 31.3% of all COVID-19 tests. The week before, it was 13.6%. On week ending August 9, the COVID-19 positivity rate was 2.8%, which gave university officials some confidence that the university could safely reopen.But as cases began to see an uptick last week, the university suspended all in-person learning for undergraduates just a week into the start of the semester. The university also encouraged on-campus residents to return home. The university said that just 15.1% of its main campus housing was being utilized as of Monday, down from 60.5% a week prior.As a number of universities begin in-person learning, the surge of cases at UNC offers a cautionary tale of operating a major university amid the worst pandemic to hit the US in over a century.
