(KGTV) -- Many Bay Area residents woke up Wednesday to a smoky, dark orange sky as fires continue to burn in Northern California.Bay Area TV station KGO reported strong winds have blown smoke and ash from fires in the Chico area and Mendocino National Forest into San Francisco and other parts of the Bay Area.The combination of weather conditions and fire has created an apocalyptic-like view across the region and poor air quality for the area.In a tweet, the National Weather Service Bay Area said: “As the winds weaken aloft, gravity will take over as the primary vertical transport of the smoke. A big winner in this year's election was the marijuana industry, as five states approved some form of legalization.Mississippi approved it for medicinal use. Arizona, Montana and New Jersey approved it for recreational use. South Dakota approved it for both and became the first state to approve both forms of marijuana in the same election.The Drug Policy Alliance says it never expected the support in some states, but hopes it sends a message to lawmakers in Washington D.C.“It doesn’t just stop at marijuana reform,” said Matt Sutton with the Drug Policy Alliance. “People are really seeing drugs as being something that shouldn’t be criminalized in the U.S. and they definitely took that with them to the ballot box.”Changes could happen on the federal level. Congress was supposed to vote on the MORE Act in September. The bill would decriminalize marijuana by removing it from the list of controlled substances and expunge many previous convictions.The Drug Policy Alliance says the bill is now expected to go to a vote by the end of the year and hopes the momentum at the state level translates to a victory at the federal level.“I am hoping that this wave of victories across the country will definitely send a message to Congress and really light a fire under them to pass the MORE Act,” said Sutton.It wasn't just marijuana that won on election night. Oregon voters overwhelmingly approved a proposal to decriminalize possession of all drugs.People caught possessing hard drugs would have the option to pay a 0 fine or attend an addiction recovery center. A 26-year-old tattoo artist was arrested on sexual abuse and assault charges after an incident involving an intoxicated teen last month.According to police documents, a 19-year-girl was offered a free thigh tattoo at the Dark Side Tattoo shop in Phoenix. Arturo Emmanuel Palafox and the victim were reportedly alone in the shop when he was giving the teen her tattoo on March 16, 2018. The pair reportedly left to get a bottle of Crown Royal and were both drinking during the incident. Police paperwork says Palafox engaged in unwanted sexual contact and intercourse with the intoxicated victim several times, photographed her and was seen on surveillance video stirring her drink when she left the room. The victim reportedly noticed a green powdery substance in her cup when she returned from a trip to the bathroom. A family member of the victim contacted ABC15 and said the victim could not remember portions of the incident, matching similar reports from police paperwork. Police say the victim contacted her sister during the incident and said she had been raped. Her sister showed up at the tattoo shop and was eventually able to take her from the scene. She alerted police that Palafox was leaving the shop and police were able to detain him during a traffic stop. Evidence collected included a small bag of green powder, a bottle of alcohol, unopened condoms and surveillance footage from the tattoo shop.Palafox was booked into jail on 15 counts of felony sex assault, six counts of felony sex abuse, one count of aggravated assault, two counts of unlawful recording and one count of kidnapping.  1669

(KGTV) — On Aug. 9, 1969, the doors of Disneyland's spookiest attraction creaked open and invited guests inside to meet its ghostly residents.The spirited New Orleans Square ride was the first attraction to open without Walt Disney's direct supervision at the theme park, according to Disney. And while Disney reviewed early concepts, he didn't live long enough to see the completed ride.The idea for the mansion started in 1952 as an early concept sketch by Harper Goff when the theme park was still being developed. Construction started in 1961 and the gothic, Victorian exterior was finished in 1963. (KGTV) — The DUI suspected accused in a violent chain-reaction crash on Interstate 15 in Temecula that killed one woman has been charged with second-degree murder.Javier Calder, of Auburn, Washington, was charged with one count of second-degree murder and driving under the influence of a drug with an enhancement of causing great bodily injury, according to ABC-affiliate KABC.If convicted, Calder could face life in prison.Tuesday's crash occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on southbound I-15 near Rancho California Rd. Caldera was speeding in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at more than 100 mph when he slammed into the back of a Nissan Altima, according to CHP.The driver of the Altima, 44-year-old Janet Genao of Murrieta, died at the scene, KABC reported.Another vehicle was also struck and sent over the side of the freeway and into a parking structure at Temecula City Hall, the station adds.
