Cynda Murrow has been working at Walgreens for four years.“I get to meet new people, and I like to say hi to all of my co-workers,” Murrow said.She’s a person just like anyone else, but we all have something that’s a part of our story. "But some of the people speak Spanish, so that’s hard for me to speak Spanish because I don’t know Spanish. I know a little bit of Spanish though.”Cynda says she loves her job. Just like any job, some days can be challenging. However, she always finds a way to make it work.“(I have a) device that I use to help me speak if I have trouble," Murrow said. Please be patient with me.’”Advocates who offer support for people with disabilities say employment is an important part of life. That’s why national organizations like The Arc work to break down those barriers.“Employment is more than just getting a paycheck. Employment develops independent, self-esteem, self-protection, and limits vulnerability in mistreatment, abuse and neglect,” Luke Wheeland with The Arc said.In the past 30 years, there’s been a lot of effort to get people with disabilities into the workforce. It all comes down to seeking out the right resources. Murrow’s mom says she’s been educating herself on what’s good for Murrow since the day she was born.“I found that information is power, so I just learned as much as I could,” Murrow'’s mom Wayla Murrow said.Another resource Murrow’s family uses, is the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.“Vocational Rehabilitation is the largest provider of job placement services for people with disabilities in the country,” Eric Clark with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation said.Clark says Vocational Rehabilitation programs exist in all 50 states and serves about a million people per year. Those who have a documented disability are able to partner with a rehabilitation counselor to develop an individual plan to find employment.“In that process they’ll talk about what kind of employment are they interested in, what type of employment have they done before, what skills did they develop from that employment," Clark said. "But also, even talking about general life activities. Do they volunteer? Do they do sports?”Clark says a good reference to use when applying for jobs is the 2526

Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump has requested the release of body camera footage recorded by two mounted Galveston police officers who led a handcuffed black man down the city's streets.The police department has 30 days to comply, or face a civil rights march through the city, Crump said at a press conference Monday.Two Galveston police arrested Donald Neely earlier this month. Photos show them on horseback, leading the 43-year-old by what appeared to be a rope. Neely was on foot.Police said the officer was holding a "line" that was clipped to the man's handcuffs, not a rope. But the photo evoked images of slave hunters dragging captured slaves, Crump said, and "everybody who you talk to in communities of color were heartbroken."The police department apologized last week, and Police Chief Vernon L Hale III said it caused Neely "unnecessary embarrassment," and that the officers showed "poor judgment.""Until you release that video from that body cam, we are not going anywhere," Crump said. "We're going to stay here and stand with Donald Neely and his family."If the video isn't released in 30 days, other civil, human and mental health advocates will join them to "have a great march on Galveston, and we're going to march down the same streets that you dragged Donald Neely down by rope," Crump said.Police said Neely was charged with criminal trespass. Officers had warned him on previous occasions to stay away from a location in the downtown visitor district where he was arrested, police spokesman Sgt. Dick's announced it would destroy its inventory of weapons, rather than allow them to be sold by another retailer.Since then, about million of the chain's gun inventory has been turned into scrap metal, Stack said in an interview with CBS."All this about, you know, how we were anti-Second Amendment, you know, 'we don't believe in the Constitution,' and none of that could be further from the truth," he said in the interview. "We just didn't want to sell the assault-style weapons that could inflict that kind of damage."The shootingStack is a hunter and gun owner who believes strongly in the Second Amendment. The company, which his father started as a fish-and-tackle shop in 1948, has sold guns since long before Stack started working there in 1977.But the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, on February 14, 2018, changed that. Celebration and pride turned into tragedy for a small city in Alabama after gunfire erupted during a high school graduation party.One person was killed and eight others were wounded at a community center in Atmore, near the Florida border, early Saturday.Witnesses say a fight broke out between two women during a graduation party for Escambia County High School's seniors. As people were trying to separate the two women, police said, gunshots were fired inside that hit several people.Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks told CNN officers responded to a 911 call for shots fired at the community center around 2 a.m. Saturday. Once officers got to the scene, shots were still being fired and police found one man dead in the center's cafeteria.
