The community in Mayfield Heights, Ohio is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old student who died on Wednesday night. Steven "Stevie" Grieshammer was a junior on the swim team at Mayfield High School. On February 25 during swimming exercises he did not come up from the water, according to a Facebook post by his aunt Missy Bifro Grieshammer. "He was a wonderful boy, a loving son, a fantastic swimmer, and just the sweetest nephew we could have. We will miss him every day," his uncle wrote in remembrance.According to his family, he spent days in a coma.Mayfield City Schools superintendent Dr. Keith Kelly released the following statement to parents and students.Our deepest condolences and most heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the Grieshammer family. The Cumberland, Wisconsin High School Class of 2018 got a special shout out from the local police department on an epic senior prank.The police department said on Facebook it was "one of the best senior pranks that Cumberland High School has seen."Students positioned an old junker strewn with loose bricks in front of what appeared to be a gaping black hole in the building's side, just outside the principal's office.It wasn't actually a hole, though. Using tape and a black tarp, the students created the illusion of damage, making it look like the car crashed into the side of the building. The back of the car said, "CHS Class of 2018."The best part? This prank included absolutely no damage at all to school property, which is why police singled it out."Hats off to the Cumberland High School Class of 2018 on your senior prank...Congratulations to all the seniors who are graduating," police said.This isn't the first time the tiny town of Cumberland has been in the viral spotlight. The Connecticut Supreme Court has vacated Michael Skakel's conviction in a decades-old murder case and ordered a new trial.The ruling is the latest in a long legal battle waged by Skakel, 57, the nephew of Robert and Ethel Kennedy, who was accused of brutally killing a teenaged girl in 1975.He served about half of a 20-year sentence but was freed on bond in 2013, when the courts first ordered a new trial.The court ruled that Skakel's attorney, Michael Sherman, "rendered ineffective assistance" by failing to identify an alibi witness for his client, and that as a result, Skakel was deprived of a fair trial.Prosecutors can choose to retry Skakel, according to the decision, but the defense would now have the benefit of that alibi testimony. The prosecutor's office was not immediately available for comment.Authorities said Skakel was 15 when he killed his neighbor Martha Moxley, also 15. 904

The confirmation hearing for Supreme Court Nominee Amy Coney Barrett are officially scheduled to begin October 12 at 9 a.m.The head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Lindsey Graham, announced this start date in the days following Barrett’s confirmation. However, there were questions after three Republicans on the committee reported they tested positive for the coronavirus in the last few days.They are Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Mike Lee of Utah.After a day of opening statements from committee members and Barrett herself, questioning of the nominee will begin October 13. The Hill is reporting Barrett is expected to testify in person at the hearing.The committee vote on moving Barrett’s nomination to the full senate could be as early as October 22.Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said if the hearings go forward, Graham should require coronavirus testing for senators and their staffs. He suggested mandatory testing every day of the hearing.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell over the weekend announced the full senate will not return until October 19, mentioning that hearings already this year have included lawmakers participating remotely.No word from Graham if there will be increased safety protocols for the committee or if any of the senators will participate remotely.Also, Senator Graham tweeted Monday morning he had spoken with President Donald Trump. “He sounds terrific -- very engaged and ready to get back to work!
