RACINE, Wisconsin -- Manufacturer SC Johnson announced Wednesday that between 300 and 400 positions in the company would be eliminated due to an organizational change.The change was first announced to employees back in January, according to a statement from the company. RAMONA (CNS) - Deputies and firefighters came to the rescue Friday when five family members were overcome by heat exhaustion during a sweltering afternoon hike on Cedar Creek Falls Trail in eastern San Diego County.The emergency on the popular footpath northeast of El Capitan Reservoir near Ramona began about 2 p.m., amid temperatures in the mid-90s, according to Cal Fire and the National Weather Service.U.S. Forest Service personnel hiked about a mile and a half down the steep sun-baked trail to reach the exhausted group, which included at least one child. They helped load them onto a pair of sheriff's helicopters that landed in open areas nearby, Cal Fire Capt, Thomas Shoots said.The air crews then dropped off the group -- visitors to the San Diego area from New Jersey -- at a putting green across the street from Cal Fire San Diego Ramona Fire Station 81 on San Vicente Road, where they were met by paramedics.After getting out of the sun and rehydrating, the rescued tourists were given clean bills of health and released, Shoots said.Cedar Creek Falls Trail, along with Three Sisters Falls Trail, can be dangerous to hikers in the summer months and have been closed during heat waves in recent years. 1224

Record high ocean temperatures are bringing large crowds to San Diego beaches. The warm water also has the potential to attract more stingrays and jellyfish to the area.The Scripps Institute of Oceanography reports that surface ocean temperatures reached a record 79.5 degrees Sunday, which is more than ten degrees above normal. That, combined with unseasonably hot and humid weather, brought 333,680 people to City of San Diego beaches over the weekend, city lifeguards estimate. Clarissa Anderson, executive director of the Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, said it's unclear what has led to the higher temperatures. "The last several years we really have seen these anomalous temperatures every summer," she said, adding that the hot and humid water could be playing a role.The warm waters could also attract more stingrays to plant themselves along the shallow sand and jelly fish in the water just off shore. People who don't shuffle their feet risk a sting from the ray, while jelly fish sting on contact."More people are going to the beach, warmer temperatures, nice water and so you've just got more people and more animals, higher probability of encounter," Anderson said. RAMONA (KGTV) - — The owner of Ramona Fitness Center is trying to rally business owners to stand up for their rights and consider defying San Diego County public health orders that require many businesses to close.“They’re forcing us out of business," Peter San Nicolas told ABC 10News in an interview Tuesday. "They’ll force people to not be able to pay for food and pay for home, for somewhere to live. We’re talking about basic necessities and they’re pushing us to the limit.”Gyms are among the sectors ordered to cease all indoor operations after the county moved into the state's purple, or worst, tier. This comes as the county recorded 1,546 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, a single-day record.San Nicolas makes the case that gyms can open safely and that forcing them to close will not stop the spread. “We haven’t had any issue with it here in the gym. We’ve had over 25,000 check-ins just since June and we’ve had no cases of covid here at the gym.”According to the latest outbreak numbers on the county website, only 0.4% of all cases recorded between June 5 and November 14 have been tied to gyms. However, many public health experts say there is no question gyms should be closed during this most recent surge.
