On World AIDS Day, a resurfaced photo on Facebook is reminding people of the impact the epidemic had on the LGBTQ community.An image posted by Paul Davis, identified on his Facebook and LinkedIn as the national advocacy coordinator for nonprofit Housing Works, has garnered more than 2,600 reactions and thousands of shares. The image shows a photo from 1993 by Eric Luse and was originally published in the San Francisco Chronicle.The photo in his post depicts the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. Seven of the people in the photo are shown wearing white and the rest are in black. According to the caption accompanying the photo, and other articles, the people in white represented the remaining living members of the original choir and those in black represented those who were lost to AIDS at the time the photo was taken.Though 25 years old, the photo still resonates with people, as seen in the comments on Davis' post."I am a member of SFGMC and so is my husband," said one commenter, Michael Jay Stauffer Joyce. "If I remember this picture was taken in the early 90’s. I believe maybe 91, We did a Re-creation of the picture in the spring of 2018, we have a section of the course called the fifth section which is dedicated to all those who have passed that were members. It has reached over 300 following members, and most have died from AIDS."According to the Foundation for AIDS Research, at the end of 1993, there were more than 360,000 reported cases of AIDS in the U.S. and more than 234,000 deaths as a result of the illness. More than 1.1 million people are living with AIDS today, and one in seven people are unaware they are infected, according to HIV.gov. OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Edmond, Oklahoma teacher is offering free rides to teachers trying to get to the Capitol for the walkout."I couldn’t tell you how many people have been in this car," Troy Frieling said. "I have no idea. I’ve had children, administrators, support staff, just teachers in general."For the last eight days, Troy Frieling has shuttled people to and from the Capitol from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. He picks them up at their cars parked in neighborhoods a few miles away and drops them off just a few steps from the rally.Frieling is a teacher himself and so is his wife."Honestly I wanted to be able to serve the teachers," Frieling said. "I just didn’t feel like my time standing in line up there was going to help anything."He said he has picked up some of the same people day after day.A ride in Frieling's truck is completely free."They’ve asked me, 'Do you want donations?' and I’m like, 'No, it wouldn’t be a free ride if you gave me donations,'" he saidHe said he has found a few dollars left behind in his truck. The only thing he asks of his passengers is they sign a poster in his car. He's already filled up one poster and has hundreds on his second poster."It took five minutes off our day, but it’s also refreshing after such a long week and a half to continue to see the community being helpful and supportive," Randi Mahoney, a teacher at Ralph Downs in Ponca City, said.At the end of the day, Frieling brings them back to their cars.  1494

Nothing, not even the COVID-19 pandemic, will stop Santa from delivering toys to good boys and girls every Christmas Eve — and nothing will stop the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) from tracking the big guy's flying sleigh.This year, NORAD launched its 2020 Santa-tracker website, which will be updated regularly throughout the month season with new Holiday-themed games, music and videos.The Santa tracker is live now, and can be watched live at any time on Christmas Eve at NORADSanta.org. "Thanks to the dedicated men and women who keep a watchful eye over North American airspace 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NORAD tracks everything that flies in and around North America. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego Humane Society is asking for the public's help in solving an animal cruelty investigation. Around 5:30 p.m. on April 29 Humane Officers received a call about a loose goat running in and out of traffic at the busy Oceanside intersection of College Boulevard and Marvin Street.Oceanside resident Scott Palmer made the call when he noticed the goat on his commute home. “I literally told him to sit and stay, don’t know what I was thinking but I tried to distract him, and then he followed me to my car," said Palmer.Palmer described him as being as friendly as a dog.A Humane Law Officer picked up the goat and then received surveillance video of the incident. The footage shows two people abandoning the goat and driving away in a 4-door, white pickup truck.“It’s ok for you to come to us, please don’t abandon your animals when you can bring them to San Diego Humane Society and we'll take care of it for you," said Dariel Walker, with the Humane Society. She says if you cannot afford the fee, the Humane Society can still help.
