SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was killed and another person was in critical condition following a shooting in Shelltown early Saturday.The shooting was reported at about 1:30 a.m. near Epsilon St. and 42nd St., according to San Diego Police. Two men were standing outside when the shooting occurred, but it's unclear what led up to the gunshots.One man in his 50s died and another man in his 60s suffered non-life threatening injuries.Police were not able to immediately give a suspect description, but were interviewing neighbors Saturday morning. 556

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Tuesday released video of a deadly officer-involved shooting in El Cerrito. The body camera footage is being released within 45 days of the incident as part of Assembly Bill 748. The video shows the moment 52-year-old Dennis Carolino was shot by an officer. According to police, Carolino’s aunt called police the night of August 24 to report that he hit her in the head with a brick. The 70-year-old woman told police Carolino had psychiatric issues. RELATED: Man dies following officer-involved shooting in El CerritoPolice requested the assistance of the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) and responded to the home in the 5800 block of Adelaide Avenue, where officers encountered Carolino in the backyard.“As the officers entered the backyard area to determine the location of the man, he quickly emerged from an outbuilding, holding a shovel. The officers gave the man verbal commands to drop the shovel. One of the officers drew his Taser at that point. The man did not cooperate with the officers’ commands and began to rapidly advance on the officers as he swung the shovel. One officer fired the Taser, which did not have any effect on him. The man continued to advance, prompting the other officer to fire his service weapon,” San Diego Police said in a statement.San Diego Police say three seconds passed from the time Carolino left the outbuilding to the time he was shot. Officers provided aid to Carolino until paramedics arrived, but he died shortly after. Officer Jose Mendez, a 16-year veteran of the department, fired his Taser, SDPD said. The officer who fired his service weapon was identified as Officer Brad Keyes, a four-year veteran of the department. 1717

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- On Thursday, January 3, the newest members of Congress will head to Washington D.C. to be sworn in. Among them is Mike Levin, who will represent California's 49th Congressional District. Levin, an environmental attorney, ran a campaign focused on younger voters. During the campaign, he cast his opponent, Diane Harkey as a “rubber stamp" for President Donald Trump. The district was previously represented by Darrell Issa. Juan Varges of the 51st Congressional District will also head to Washington. Varges made headlines recently after pointing the finger at the Trump administration for the situation at the border after hundreds of migrants rushed the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The 51st Congressional District consists of south San Diego County, Imperial County and California’s entire U.S./Mexico border. Also in Washington for the swearing in is Congressman Scott Peters of California’s 52nd District. The district includes the cities of Coronado and Poway as well as most of northern San Diego. Peters was first elected in 2012. In 2018, Peters introduced legislation to provide a tax credit who paid more than 30 percent of their gross income on rent and utilities. Rep. Susan Davis was re-elected in 2018 and represents California’s 53rd Congressional District. The district stretches from I-5 and Balboa Park through Mission Valley to East County and includes much of the heart of San Diego.Davis has been serving the district since 2001 and in 2018, won against her opponent, Morgan Murtaugh. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are searching for a mystery shooter that appears to using moving vehicles for target practice on a road in La Jolla.On Thursday just past 10 p.m. on La Jolla Parkway, Judy Chance was in her minivan running errands. It happened about a quarter mile from the fire station."Bang, bang, bang, bang. Basically all at once," said Chance.Her minivan was under attack."Enough to caused me to jerk back. When I looked, I saw circles in my windshield, like target practice," said Chance.On the windshield were at least six circles. Whatever caused them cracked but didn't puncture the glass."I was shocked. I was scared but had to regain composure as I was driving," said Chance.Chance pulled over and called police, feeling frightened, but grateful."Luckily I was going slow. I could have gone off the road. Glad my side window was closed," said Chance.Chance was not the only victim. Just minutes prior, in the same location, a couple driving a Mercedes says they heard a loud blast and saw a flash, before their windshield was pelted with shots. Some eight circles were found on their windshield. Was it a BB or pellet gun? One gun expert told 10news the flash and grouping may point to a shotgun, possibly loaded with birdshot. Chance says there were no vehicles around them, so the shooter may have been standing on the side of the road.Detectives say they don't have any suspect description. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was killed and police were searching for a suspect after a shooting in the Chollas Creek neighborhood.San Diego Police said one victim was transported to a nearby hospital after the shooting at about 2:30 p.m. Friday in the 5200 block of University Avenue.Police later confirmed the victim died of their injuries.Police were still searching for a gunman following the shooting.
