ATHENS, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- China and Greece issued a joint statement on Saturday, pledging to enhance their cooperation in various fields in an effort to deepen bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.In a joint statement issued during the visit by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, the two countries expressed willingness to maintain frequent visits by leaders from both sides and enhance mutual political trust."The Greek government respects China's territorial integrity, reaffirms its adherence to the one China policy and supports the development of cross-Strait relations and China's reunification," the statement said.Both sides also agreed to promote the development of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.Greece will continue to play a positive role in discussions within the EU over the recognition of China's full market economy status, which Athens believes is of great political significance, as China has made substantial progress on the issue within the framework of the World Trade Organization, said the statement.Hoping for a just, lasting and feasible solution to the Cyprus issue based on relevant UN resolutions, the two countries support the mediation efforts by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.Greece is willing to cooperate with China in their joint fight against pirates and safeguard the international shipping, according to the statement. Beijing, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Officials from 28 countries across Asia and the Pacific gathered Thursday in Beijing for a high-level meeting on cooperation on children's rights in the Asia-Pacific region.Anthony Lake, executive director of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), called for collaboration among Asia Pacific countries in protecting children's rights in a speech delivered at the meeting.Lake said,"We are already seeing the benefits of cooperation in areas that cut across borders, from preventing the spread of disease, to addressing the effects of climate change, to increasing child protection, to improving education."During the three-day meeting, more than 180 representatives from 28 countries in the Asia-Pacific region are expected to discuss issues on children's welfare and protection and the realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), these being eight global anti-poverty objectives due to be accomplished by 2015.The meeting, scheduled from November 4 to 6, is hosted by the All-China Women's Federation, the National Working Committee for Children and Women under the State Council, China's Ministry of Commerce, and with support from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese man convicted of murdering 11 people including three police officers over five years were executed Tuesday in Foshan City, south China's Guangdong Province, a local court said.Listed as one of the top wanted suspects, Cheng Ruilong, 37, was arrested in 2005 and was sentenced to death for murder, robbery and rape by Foshan Municipal Intermediate People's Court in February 2010. He was found to have murdered 11 people in a string of violence between May 1996 and January 2005.Cheng, a Guangdong native, was originally convicted of murdering 13 but the court dropped the number of victims in July's hearing of Cheng's appeal as bodies of a woman and her daughter allegedly killed by Cheng were never found.He lost the appeal. His execution had been approved by the Supreme People's Court, officials with Foshan intermediate court said.
