"The staff and students of Kenosha Unified School District, along with members of the Kenosha community, continue to grapple with the tragic shooting incident that occurred in our community last spring. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The world's smallest surviving baby went home healthy after being delivered at a San Diego hospital at only 23 weeks. Saybie was delivered in December of 2018 at 23 weeks and three days at San Diego’s Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns. According to the hospital, Saybie’s mother gave birth after experiencing severe pregnancy complications. When she was born, Saybie weighed 8.6 ounces, about as much as a large apple, according to the hospital. After her birth, the hospital’s life support team rushed to stabilize her before she was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit. Saybie was sent home in mid-May at a healthy 5 pounds. "No one expects their baby to be born with complications," said Trisha Khaleghi, senior vice president and chief executive officer at Sharp Mary Birch. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The pomp and circumstance will be virtual this year, but the money incoming Mayor Todd Gloria and the nine City Council members will take home is very real.Starting Thursday, the city will pay its mayor 6,000 a year -- more than double outgoing Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s roughly 1,000 salary.Meanwhile, City Council salaries will jump from ,000 a year to 4,000 overnight. That's a 65 percent raise; it increases to 5,000 on Dec. 10, 2022.The timing may seem odd, given the pandemic's impact on jobs and our economy, and the fact that major city general fund revenues are projected to be about million under budget this fiscal year. (AP) -- Lowe's Cos. is laying off thousands of employees at its U.S. stores as it outsources some of their duties to outside companies.The home-improvement chain, based in Mooresville, North Carolina, declined to say exactly how many employees were affected. But The Wall Street Journal reported that thousands of employees were told this week that their jobs were eliminated, which the company confirmed.Lowe's spokeswoman Jackie Pardini Hartzell said Thursday that the cuts are coming as the company moves to third-party assemblers and facility services to allow store associates to spend more time on the sales floor serving customers. Previously some store workers did assembly work, such a constructing floor models, and janitorial work. Hartzell said that employees in these positions will have the opportunity to apply for other open roles at Lowe's.She said the company is not disclosing how many are affected as the number of employees impacted varies by store and the company has a strong track record of retaining associates in other roles within the company.Lowe's, under its relatively new CEO Marvin Ellison, is trying to return its focus to its home improvement chain and streamline its business.After Ellison took the reins last year, he thinned executive positions at the company and began paring away weaker selling items in its stores. You see the spellers on the stage at Scripps National Spelling Bee, but there’s a critical player in the competition who you hear more than see.Dr. Jacques Bailly is the Bee’s official pronouncer, and to the spellers, he’s a celebrity. Participants lined up to meet the man many saw in the movie, Akeelah and the Bee, and who records the words many of them have studied.“It's really kind of an honor that they all come here, and they think I’m, you know, somebody famous and interesting to meet,” says Dr. Bailly. “We're here to honor them.”Dr. Bailly has a keen understanding of what the spellers are going through.He won the Bee in 1980 and has some tips for spellers taking the stage.“The way to spell a word you don't know: you spell it the way it sounds,” he advises. “Don't make a fancy guess. Don't assume there's a silent ‘Q’ because there aren't very many of those you know just felt the way it sounds. That's kind of the best guess.”His advice for beating the jitters?“I think a deep breath is one of the best things,” he says. “It's just, you know, to feel free, to get up there and go.
