KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For the Guidino family, the work at their mechanic shop is nonstop.Deyanira Gudino's father works to fix engines, mirrors, replace tires, and other parts to make sure it's the right fit for customers' cars. But there was something bigger in their lives stalling."It's something we've been waiting for for years and it's something we wanted ever since we arrived in the United States," Deyanira Gudino said.At nearly two years old, Deyanira and her parents moved from Mexico City to Kansas City."I’ve always said I love my country (Mexico) but thanks to God, this country has given me the opportunity to give my children a place and give them a chance to go to school," Deyanira Gudino's mother, Azucena Cruz said. "Something we couldn’t do in our country.”The transition wasn't easy and oftentimes scary.“It’s very difficult because when she (Deya) arrived here, she was going to turn two years old and when I had to work, I had to leave her," Cruz said. "I remember I enrolled her in an army nursery where she could stay all day."Deyanira said the hardest part was feeling safe. Her parents would stay in much of the time unless it was a necessity to go out."We would go wherever we needed to go but we would never travel the U.S.," she said. "We would never do any of that exploring stuff because they were always in fear that something could go wrong."The language was also a barrier."We had no clue how to communicate with anyone here. And it was very difficult for me to learn once I started school because at home, all we spoke was Spanish," Deyanira said. "The little bit of English I knew, I had to help my parents translate, even just going to the store, finding something, anything that my parents had to speak English for. I had to use my little bit of language that I knew to translate for them. So it was really difficult for all of us, but eventually, I started learning a lot more English. And they got used to being here, so they adapted to the language a little so they started understanding the basic words in English."For roughly 10 years, they've been working on becoming permanent residents, and recently Deyanira received the phone call they'd been waiting for."We were just so happy and full of emotions whenever we received the call saying that we were residents," she said. But it wasn't her parents who heard the news first."I was the one that actually got the call and I just wanted to find a nice way to surprise them," she said. And she did. She and her younger sister, Carmen, had gifts waiting for their parents, recording their reaction when they found out they were now residents of the United States:"It was really exciting for all of us and I was just full of emotions," Deyanira said."We were at a party and my daughter was reading me the comments," Cruz said. "I cried all day, knowing that so many people were sending us blessings, that they wished us the best.”For Deyanira, it's a moment of resiliency and perseverance."I really fought for everything that I have now, so I know now that I have my residency nothing else is really going to stop me," she said. And it's not just for her, but her parents."They sacrifice so much leaving their country to give me a better future," Deyanira said. "I definitely have done everything I have done for them because I know that it's all they wanted to see me succeed."And that's still the case.“Well very emotional, happy, more than anything for my family. Well because it’s 20 years that we can’t see our family. That my daughter (Deya) more than anything didn’t have the opportunities that citizens have, that people who with documentation have," Cruz said. The biggest message they have for others? Keep going."Don’t give up. It is possible for things to be done if someone comes to country and they come to do them right," Cruz said."Don't stop fighting," Deyanira said. "Just keep believing things will get better, 'cause things will get better."Deyanira's sister shared the reaction video on TikTok and it had more than 1.1 million views. Several comments flowed in for the Gudino family congratulating them and sharing their excitement. This story was first reported by Rae Daniel at KSHB in Kansas City, Missouri. 4222

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) — City crews have started emergency repairs to an unstable cave located underneath a busy La Jolla street.Coast Blvd. was closed late Thursday after experts found weaknesses in Cook's Crack, a sea cave underneath Coast Blvd. near Cave St."We're starting to see above ... the looser, weaker material. That's a trigger right off the bat that, 'Oh my God, we don't have the beefy rock bridging across anymore. So that's what got out attention," said James Nagelvoort, city public works director.RELATED: La Jolla streets closed for emergency stabilization of Cook's Crack caveThe discovery came as crews prepared to repair Coast Blvd. Assessors discovered that if too much weight is above the cave or heavy seismic vibrations hit the area, the road could collapse, according to the city.A crew from Texas was called to lead the project, driving overnight to La Jolla Friday.Crews plan to first fill the cave's cracks with an eco-friendly polyurethane mix to strengthen the dirt. The next phase will be to clear out all of the water and fill the cave with a concrete mix.Construction is expected to last about six weeks, closing parts of Coast Blvd. and Cave St.Cook's Crack is located in the area between La Jolla Cove and the popular Cave Store. The strip of road leads down to seaside restaurants and parking for many tourists and residents. The project required the city to quickly close the road before locals realized what the issue was, though businesses and residents were allowed to pass through the area Friday."They said there's been some shift in the road itself," David Heine, owner of nearby Brockton Villa Restaurant, told 10News. "The busiest two weeks of summer, literally ... Obviously safety's the number one concern for any city, and we respect that." 1799

KATOWICE, Poland (AP) — Arnold Schwarzenegger says he wishes he could travel back in time like the cyborg he played in "The Terminator" so he could stop fossil fuels from being used."If we would've never started in that direction and used other technology, we'd be much better off," the actor and former California governor said Monday at the start of a U.N. climate conference in Poland."The biggest evil is fossil fuels: it's coal, it's gasoline, it's the natural gas," he told conference delegates.Schwarzenegger also insisted that the United States was "still in" an international accord to curb global warming despite U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to walk away from the agreement.Calling Trump "meshugge" - Yiddish for "crazy" - for abandoning the accord, Schwarzenegger said the 2015 agreement has widespread support at the local and state levels even if the federal government isn't on board.American states, cities, businesses and citizens can do a lot to curb global warming, and representatives from those arenas should be invited to next year's climate conference, he told the audience in Poland."And if you do that, I promise you: I'll be back," he said in another reference to "The Terminator."Schwarzenegger later told The Associated Press he has converted his signature Humvee trucks to run on hydrogen, electricity and biofuel and only allows himself to eat meat three days a week."I mean, maybe it tastes delicious, but I think we should think then and there before we eat about the world and about the pollution," he said. "So I discontinued eating meat four days a week. And eventually, maybe we'll go to seven days" 1652

Khloé Kardashian is a mom.Two sources close to the family tell CNN that Kardashian has given birth to a baby girl.Kardashian's boyfriend and the father of her child is Cleveland Cavaliers basketball player Tristan Thompson. The couple became embroiled in controversy before the birth after reports surfaced that Thompson had been spotted in the company of other women during Kardashian's pregnancy.Kardashian announced her pregnancy in December with a photo on her official Instagram account, featuring Thompson cradling her pregnant belly."My greatest dream realized," the caption read. "We are having a baby!"Kardashian had been open in the past about her struggles with infertility and wrote, "I had been waiting and wondering but God had a plan all along.""He knew what He was doing," she wrote. "I simply had to trust in Him and be patient."Her desire to start a family had been part of the storyline on her former reality show "Khloé & Lamar" with now ex-husband and former NBA player Lamar Odom (the couple were estranged for some time before legally divorcing last December). It's been a big year for the Kardashian-Jenner clan in terms of babies.Reports surfaced in September that Khloé Kardashian was pregnant after news that her younger sister, Kylie Jenner, was also pregnant with her first child.Jenner gave birth to her daughter, Stormi, in February.Kim Kardashian West and rapper husband Kanye West welcomed their third child, a daughter they named Chicago, via a surrogate in January. On Monday, Kardashian hinted her baby's arrival may be imminent with a photo captioned, "We are ready whenever you are little mama."Thompson reportedly has a son by former girlfriend, Jordan Craig.  1713
