United Airlines is looking to add flights to their schedule in October, including resuming previously canceled trips and adding new ones.According to the airline, this will bring them up to flying 40 percent of their full schedule in October compared to October 2019. In September, they are only expecting to fly 34 percent of their full schedule.The news comes a week after the airline announced it will furlough more than 16,000 employees in October. That’s when federal bailout money from the federal government expires.The resumed flights include eight routes to Hawaii, “pending approval of the state’s pre-arrival COVID testing program.” Hawaii recently extended their out-of-state visitors ban to October 1. Once they allow visitors and tourists again, travelers must fill out a “safe travels” form and go through pandemic screening measures."We continue to be data-driven and realistic in our approach to rebuilding our network," Ankit Gupta, United's vice president of Domestic Network Planning said in a press release. "Because October is typically a slower month for leisure travel, we're adjusting our schedules to reflect these seasonal changes in customer demand while resuming service or adding capacity on routes where we're seeing increased customer demand for travel."Some of those “data-driven” decisions may have led United to realign their schedule to match “current demand for leisure travel.” The airline says in October they will add more flights on days popular with leisure travelers looking for a long weekend getaway, and will schedule fewer flights on days where demand is lower.Other changes and additions in October include:Resuming or starting new service on nearly 50 routes in the US; mostly from United’s hubs in Chicago, Denver and Houston.Resuming additional service to Florida and along the west coast.Resuming service to 14 international destinations, including parts of South America and Mexico.United was one of the airlines last week who announced they will be permanently eliminating change fees on flights within the US. Uber doesn't plan to renew its self-driving vehicle permit in California.The news comes less than two weeks after a self-driving Uber SUV struck and killed 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg as she walked her bicycle across a street in Tempe, Arizona. After the tragedy, the company halted testing of its self-driving cars on roads in North America.Uber's self-driving permit in California goes until March 31 -- and the company said it will let the permit expire."We decided to not reapply for a California DMV permit with the understanding that our self-driving vehicles would not operate on public roads in the immediate future," an Uber spokesperson said in a statement to CNN on Tuesday.Uber's statement comes after several news outlets, including CNN, obtained a letter sent by DMV deputy director and chief counsel Brian Soublet to Uber's public affairs manager, Austin Heyworth on Tuesday regarding its permit.Soublet wrote that if and when Uber applies for a new autonomous vehicle testing permit, it will "need to address any follow-up analysis or investigations from the recent crash in Arizona an may also require a meeting with the department."The news of the letter was first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.The Tempe Police Department and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the crash.Last week, Boston's government asked self-driving companies operating in the city to halt operations while safety procedures are reviewed. UPDATE (6:59 p.m.): San Diego police identified the two people arrested as 50 year-old Paul Weinberger and 37 year-old Freddy Sosa. Police said Weinberger lived in the home where the homicide happened. Both men will booked into jail on charges related to the homicide. Police declined to comment on any possible motives.UPDATE (5:10 p.m.): San Diego police detained two people at the Marriott La Jolla hotel in connection to the shooting. The white Lexus was still outstanding, and anyone inside was considered armed and dangerous, an officer said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man was fatally shot at a Pacific Beach home early Saturday and police are now searching for three men reportedly seen leaving the scene in a stolen SUV.The 44-year-old man was shot at a home in the 2300 block of Wilbur Ave. sometime just before 2 a.m., according to San Diego Police. Neighbors reported gunshots in the area before police arrived and found the man suffering from a gunshot wound.First responders arrived to provide life-saving measures and the man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries. His identity is known but had not been released until his family is notified.Police said three men in their 20s and 30s were seen leaving the man's home around the time gunfire rang out. There were several residents in the home and police believe the suspects fled in a white, 2015 Lexus RX350 SUV belonging to one of the residents. The vehicle's California license plate is 7NWK357.
