President Donald Trump on Sunday compared the special counsel investigation to McCarthyism, saying Robert Mueller made the late Sen. Joseph McCarthy "look like a baby.""Study the late Joseph McCarthy, because we are now in period with Mueller and his gang that make Joseph McCarthy look like a baby! Rigged Witch Hunt!," Trump tweeted.McCarthy led a Cold War-era inquisition of alleged Communists who he claimed had infiltrated American governmental institutions. The Wisconsin Republican's assertions, famously voiced in a speech in 1950, contributed to the paranoia and fear known as "the Red Scare." A special Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee investigated McCarthy's initial claims about Communists infiltrating the State Department and found them to be "a fraud and a hoax." 791

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Anti-Defamation League Tuesday announced a ,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects who reportedly painted a swastika on the side of a Poway home the first night of Hanukkah. The announcement was made following a vigil Monday night where members of the Poway community came together in solidarity to rally against anti-Semitic hate crime. Shawn Seibert, who lives in the home with his mother, said he heard noises late Sunday night. When he walked outside, he told 10News he saw two people running away. He then noticed the swastika painted on the side of the home and chemicals poured on the family’s car. POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - He's got sticky fingers and a green thumb. A business owner says his Poway office has been repeatedly burglarized by a thief who steals plants, among other things. The man snatched succulents and pilfered a large plumeria in his latest visit to the Poway business on Adrian Street near Midland Road on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., according to owner Tom Belway. The grab-and-go gardener also disabled a surveillance camera and removed sensor lights, he said."This is the sixth or seventh time they have swept the property for any 'loose' items," Belway wrote on social media. "Previously they stole propane tanks, rocking chairs, construction materials and plants. One visit they had all of our outdoor furniture staged at the fence but they must have been interrupted."Down the street at the Park Church on Midland Road, pastor Andrew Henneforth said his church has been hit twice over the past two weeks. He said in the first incident, someone broke into a camper trailer and stole landscaping equipment and propane tanks. The second time, the thief hopped a fence and took a bicycle. There was a skateboard and drugs left behind, the pastor said."In this situation, am I a victim? Sure," Henneforth said. "But in some ways he's kind of a victim as well -- to addiction, to substance abuse."The church added security cameras after the second incident, he said. It's not clear if the two cases are related. Investigators tested a bottle of root beer left at church for DNA, the pastor said.Anyone with information should call the San Diego Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers. 1602

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - Restaurants and bars in Poway are back in business after a boil water advisory forced them to shut down for nearly a week. The precautionary advisory was lifted Friday evening for the roughly 190 businesses. Mike Hamama owns Giant New York Pizza. He's still surprised it happened. "At first, I thought it was a joke, cause it's never happened after 32 years being in Poway," said Hamama.RELATED: Poway could face fines as water boil advisory continuesPoway's mayor and the Chamber of Commerce are launching restaurant month beginning on Wednesday. They're urging people across the county to come to Poway and "Eat big. Tip big."Business owners said they'll take all the help they can get."It's really bad, it's really bad . You're losing customers, and then when you open, it's going to be slow, cause it's not routine anymore," said Hamama. Hamama and roughly 20 other business owners paid the nearly 0 fee to get a modified permit from the health department, allowing them to open before the advisory was lifted, but with several restrictions. Wednesday, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors will discuss reimbursing owners for that fee. In another setback, Hamama and others learned their insurance won't cover their losses.RELATED: Poway server gets ,000 tip after restaurant reopens"They said nothing, you're not covered only for damage, and fire," said Hamama.George Nasrawi and his family own Victor's Kafe. Monday afternoon, they were busy catching up on catering orders."My main concern during this whole thing was the employees not being able to work, especially with the holidays coming up," said Nasrawi. The advisory was issued after some residents reported brown water coming out of their faucets. City officials say a backed-up storm drain spewed run-off into the city's clearwell reservoir during the recent storms. Business owners said they understand the need for the advisory, but questioned its length."You gotta have safety first, especially when it comes to water, you don't want another Flint Michigan thing," said Nasrawi. 2087

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — Poway officials expressed shock Wednesday over a potential state fine after a water system failure that has led to a water boil advisory. The city is now in the fifth day of the precautionary water boil advisory after residents reported brownish water coming out of their faucets on Saturday. Poway has ordered restaurants to close, and is now handing out free crates of bottled water at multiple locations, including City Hall.On Wednesday, Sean Sterchi, of the state Water Resources Control Board, said he anticipates the state will fine the city for failing to protect its system from storm water. Sterchi told 10News Poway's system, built in the 1960s, is an old design that doesn't meet current standards. RELATED: Poway small business owners worry as boil water advisory continues"We have the authority to impose a fine but we will wait for them to submit an incident report," Sterchi said.In a statement, the city said it was shocked at this news and noted a September state report found no storm-water issues. "In fact, in the more than 50 years the facility has been in operation and under regular inspection by the state, the city has never been made aware of a compliance issue of this nature," the statement said. On Wednesday, the city announced a third round of tests that showed no issues with chlorine, bacteria, or clarity. RELATED: Widespread rain douses San Diego County, prompts flooding warningsJessica Parks, a senior management analyst at the city, said Poway has shored up its infrastructure in the near term. "It's a temporary fix and we are going to work on a long-term solution, but right now we are confident no water can get in or out," she said. Parks said the water is safe to bathe in, but that it should not go into people's mouths. Sterchi said the water boil advisory is expected to last at least until Friday — and potentially into the weekend — depending on further test results. 1947
