SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The owners of a Webster-area restaurant that has been broken into in recent days decided to set up their own overnight sting operation, and their plan led to two arrests.At around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, the owners of Trevi Ristorante on 4703 Federal Blvd., put together their own stakeout and waited for anyone who would try to break into the business.The restaurant had been burglarized three times in the past week, including one incident in which a safe was taken. Jonathan Romero, the owners’s son, told ABC 10News, “We’re tired of it.”While the owner remained on the roof, his son waited across the street and a family friend watched from behind the eatery.After several hours, they noticed an SUV park in an alley behind the restaurant and two men get out of the vehicle.As the family observed the two people go through gates to the restaurant’s back doors, the owner’s son called 911.San Diego police officers arrived at the scene and took one of the would-be burglars into custody.However, the other man climbed up the side of the building and ran across the roof. After jumping from the roof down to the front parking lot, the man ran away as officers pursued him.The man was able to cross Federal Boulevard, but officers deployed a stun gun and subdued him.The stunned man was treated at the scene for his injuries and is expected to be OK. 1373

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - This election fired up voters and one Serra Mesa couple was driven by duty to vote for the first time.Anthony Joiner and Justine Gibson are engaged, and invested in this election."We recently became home owners and in the next few years we'll be parents hopefully so we feel like the future is in our hands and we want to be part of the decisions that are happening," Joiner said, with Gibson adding, "wanted to make it count."FIND YOUR POLLING PLACEJoiner said it felt great to cast his ballot for the first time, "I feel accomplished."Joiner and Gibson filled their ballots out in person. "We wanted the full experience," they said laughing."This year more than ever we felt the importance of voting and having our voices heard, this was primarily driven by the current political environment! I feel like the presidential race without a doubt is important, however equally as important are the local races/props that will have a direct impact on our quality of life," Gibson said.They didn't make their decisions in isolation, "we filled out our ballots together [at home]," Joiner said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The woman accused of running over her neighbor during a domestic dispute in Chollas View pleaded not guilty Friday. San Diego Police said Tantrina Spencer-Simmons, 24, was beating her 8-year-old sister with a belt on the 200 block of 47th Street Wednesday. Spencer-Simmons’ 50-year-old neighbor, James Shank, tried to stop her but she put the girl in her SUV. 10News spoke to Shank's wife, Zena Salsbury at her home before the arraignment. She said the incident started when she witnessed her downstairs neighbor, Spencer-Simmons beating her little sister with a belt. As a double amputee, Salsbury could not go downstairs to stop it so she asked her husband to make sure the girl was safe. Salsbury said Spencer-Simmons hit Shank with her car and ran over him before driving away. "You can literally see as the victim is basically cast out from behind the car, the car lurches over and drives off," Erickson said. "She doesn't stop, doesn't hesitate, and literally takes off."Salsbury told 10News her husband now has a broken nose, shattered pelvis, punctured lung, and may need his arm amputated. He is still sedated, undergoing several more surgeries this week. Erickson said Spencer-Simmons turned herself in and was arrested on Market Street. Her bail was set at million. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The purple most restrictive tier for coronavirus guidelines goes into effect Saturday forcing many museums around San Diego County to close their doors once again."It really wasn't a surprise and when this all first started happening I think we realized that there wasn't going to be a magic date that everything was going to be better," James Haddan, Senior Director of Development and External Communications at the Museum of Us, said they've been anticipating the county's fall back into the purple tier."We made some hard choices initially, right away," Haddan said they made difficult cuts to staff at the beginning of the pandemic, hoping to sustain for the next two years."It has been extremely difficult for arts and cultural organizations throughout the city and Balboa Park would be no different," Executive Director of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership Peter Comiskey said.Comiskey said while many of the museums must close, there are still things to do at the park. The Japanese Friendship Garden, Spanish Village, and restaurants are open.In La Jolla, the Birch Aquarium is shifting too. They reopened in July and are creating as many exhibits as they can outside.
