VISTA (CNS) - A man is in custody for an alleged hit-and-run accident that caused a fatality, a California Highway Patrol official said today.Authorities arrested David Palafox, 29 of Vista and booked him into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of felony manslaughter, driving under the influence, and hit-and-run, said Mark Latulippe, CHP public information officer.Related: Interstate 5 hit and run deathAccording to the CHP, at 8:14 p.m. Friday, Palafox was driving his white GMC Sierra truck eastbound at a high rate of speed on Palmyra Drive, approaching Estrelita Drive.A 51-year-old man was walking across Estrelita Drive near the intersection when Palafox turned his vehicle right and hit him, Latulippe said.Related: Retrial for San Ysidro hit-and-run suspectLatulippe said Palafox didn't stop and fled the scene. WASHINGTON (AP) — A statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee that represented Virginia in the U.S. Capitol has been removed.Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said in a statement that workers removed the statue from the National Statuary Hall Collection early Monday.“The Confederacy is a symbol of Virginia’s racist and divisive history, and it is past time we tell our story with images of perseverance, diversity, and inclusion,” said Northam.Each state is entitled to display two statues in the collection. Lee’s statue had stood with George Washington’s statue since 1909 as Virginia’s representatives in the Capitol.The Lee statue had been one among 13 located in the Crypt of the Capitol, representing the 13 original colonies.Northam had requested its removal and a state commission has recommended replacing Lee’s statue with a likeness of Barbara Johns.Johns was an American civil rights leader who protested poor conditions at her all-Black high school in the town of Farmville in 1951. Her court case became part of a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down racial segregation in public schools.Virginia’s General Assembly must approve the replacement before a sculptor can be commissioned for the new statue. WARNING: Some might find the video disturbing due to content and languageDELRAY BEACH, Fla.-- Delray Beach, Florida police officers responded to a call Saturday of a woman and children standing on a roof. When they got there, they say they found a 23-year-old woman who was hallucinating and two small children on the garage ledge on a townhouse. Officer Rob Addea got under the window, ready to catch a child or the woman if necessary, police said.“Just get the kids back inside,” Addea said.Two other officers went upstairs and out a window to the ledge and one grabbed the children's arms while the other tried to reason with the woman, police said.Police eventually were able to rescue all of them.Body camera video recorded the actions of the officers. The woman has been committed to a mental health facility under the Baker Act and might face criminal charges, police said.The Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating and the children are in their custody.  1032
