DETROIT, Mich. – Ford is recalling over 240,000 SUVs and cars worldwide because a suspension part can fracture and increase the risk of a crash. The recall covers the Ford Flex, Taurus police car, Taurus SHO and Lincoln MKT from the 2013 through 2018 model years. Most of the recalled vehicles are in North America. Ford says if the suspension moves a lot on the vehicles, the rear toe links can fracture. Toe links help keep the rear suspension stable and the tires on the pavement. The company says it's not aware of any crashes or injuries caused by the problem in this batch of recalled vehicles. Dealers will replace toe links on both sides with new ones that are stronger. Owners will be notified starting March 2. 732

Dash camera video captured what state police in Illinois are calling a "miracle on the ice."An out of control truck narrowly missed two troopers and a woman as they changed her tire along an icy road near Wayne City, Illinois on November 12.The troopers pulled the woman out of the way into a ditch just in time and the truck passed over her. She was treated for minor injuries. The troopers weren't injured. The dash camera also captured the reaction of a second woman who was sitting in the squad carThe truck driver was ticketed for failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash."Folks, we can’t stress this enough! SLOW DOWN!" the Illinois State Police said in a Facebook post. "As you can see, sometimes it’s a matter of life or death as a stranded motorist. It’s not just about us out there, it is people you know and love that we are assisting also.""We were inches away from a different story being told. Literally inches." 937

Caroll Spinney, who gave Big Bird his warmth and Oscar the Grouch his growl for nearly 50 years on "Sesame Street," died Sunday at the age of 85 at his home in Connecticut. The Sesame Workshop said in a statement that the legendary puppeteer lived for some time with dystonia, which causes involuntary muscle contractions. Spinney voiced and operated the two major Muppets from their inception in 1969 when he was 36, and performed them almost exclusively into his 80s on the PBS kids' television show that later moved to HBO. Spinney stepped down from voicing Big Bird in 2018.Just hours after Spinney's death, "Sesame Street" received recognition at Sunday night's 679

Douglas County in Colorado is ranked the healthiest county in the country. The news doesn’t surprise Colorado natives Amber Jaworsky and Kristin Gibowicz, who are both yoga instructors. They say physical activity is contagious in Douglas County. “If you're sitting at your kitchen table looking out the window and there’s 15 people riding their bikes by and everybody is walking their dogs, you're [kind of] like, ‘Dang, I got to get my butt moving!’” says Jaworsky. The pair says say their mental health is just as important as their physical health. “Just getting out, breathing fresh air and slowing your mind down a little bit, putting your phone down disconnecting,” Gibowicz says of maintaining her mental health. Gibowicz says mental health has everything to do with physical health, and she’s right. Diabetes and smoking have the strongest correlation in reducing life expectancy. However, mental health was nearly as strong. Researchers say mental health did not have as strong of an effect last year. But it's in line with information from the Centers from Disease Control (CDC) that showed rising opioid overdoses and suicides shorten life expectancy. “There's some national research that looks at a concept they called deaths of despair,” explains Nancy VanDeMark, with Mental Health Colorado. VanDeMark says those are things many people struggle with like depression, suicide, alcohol and drug use. That's why she says we should treat mental like we do our physical and get checkups and screenings.“We have a screening site on our website so people can go in and complete a number of screenings to see if they're high risk for some sort of mental health or substance use concern,” VanDeMark says.More information can be found 1753

Conditions aren’t ideal for tactical training, but trainee Teresa Fast is pushing through. "There's definitely winds, or rains, or whatever is out there,” she says. “We just work through it. It definitely makes you tough."Fast is among the hundreds of people each year who graduate and become U.S. border patrol agents. But before that happens, agents must first pass the coursework at CBP Border Patrol Academy, located in the desert of southern New Mexico, where they're whipped into shape. The agents are trained on real-work scenarios, like safely ending a vehicle pursuit. These types of situations were the focus of the academy's overhaul about a year ago, when the school switched over from a classroom 3-month curriculum to a more hands-on regimen that lasts 6 months. "The students actually see some of the things they will encounter in the field, so getting out of the classroom and making it scenario-based,” explains Deputy Chief Carlos Ortiz with the academy. Other scenarios include vehicle stops and interrogations, which are usually practiced in Spanish, a language they all have to learn. "You have to be a strong and willing person to be able to be out there day in day out,” Ortiz says. And 47-year-old Richard Douglas is willing and up for the task. Douglas was a border agent two decades ago, before moving over to Homeland Security after 9/11. He says now is a good time to return to the border. "The border patrol has made a big push to increase their numbers, and it was a really good time to come back for me,” Douglas says. The academy is recruiting in a big way.Congress says there must be over 21,000 border patrol agents, and as of 2018, they were still about 2,000 short. 1716
