(KGTV) The deals on Friday were not good enough for a pair of thieves.National City Police are looking for two men they believe held up a cellphone store on Black Friday.Police say two armed walked into a Verizon store on East Plaza Blvd around 11 a.m. brandishing guns.The men demanded the employees and customer put their faces on the on the ground while the two placed items in a bag.One witness says the thieves told them if they looked at their faces they would shoot them.At least 20 iPhones, 0 cash and the store managers gold chain were stolen for a total haul of roughly ,000 dollars.A suspect description has not been released but one of the thieves was reported having a a beard that jutted out from the bottom of his ski mask.A Verizon store in Lemon Grove was robbed recently by two men matching their description. 863

While the reasons can vary, this year the coronavirus pandemic is motivating a lot of moves.Realtor groups around the country have reported that home sales continue to be strong in many areas around the country, as buyers look for a new place to call their work-from-home office. The National Association of Realtors says August is poised to have a home buying peak, with year-over-year growth in home sales, buyer demand and housing prices.Since many are discovering work can be done from a home located almost anywhere during the pandemic, moving trends are favoring smaller cities and reportedly lower rents and home prices.Moving help website HireaHelper.com released results of a recent study on 2020 moving trends. They looked at more than 25,000 moves booked since March 11, 2020 to see where people were headed as the country manages the coronavirus pandemic.According to HireaHelper, 15 percent of all moves they tracked were motivated by the pandemic. Of those moves, 37 percent were moving because they could no longer afford to live where they were living.Their study also found high-rent cities like San Francisco and New York saw more people leaving than moving in; both cities had 80 percent more people moving out of the area than moving in. New York as a state had 64 percent more people leaving than moving in.Meanwhile, the state of Idaho saw an increase of 194 percent more people moving in compared to leaving. The next closest state with high move-in compared to move-out numbers was New Mexico with a 44 percent increase.According to a survey conducted in July by the Pew Research Center, one-in-five Americans (roughly 22 percent) have relocated because of the Covid-19 pandemic or know someone who has. Roughly 6 percent of those surveyed say someone has moved into their household because of the pandemic.Overall those most likely being motivated to move or to have more people move into their home because of the pandemic are young adults, 37 percent of 18 to 29 year olds surveyed.In that age group, roughly one-in-ten of them said they have moved because of the coronavirus outbreak. The reasons varied from colleges closing campus, work hours cutting back or being laid off.Typically, there is a slow down in home sales and moving in the fall and winter. The National Association of Realtors says the pandemic has pushed the normal summer peak by a few months into August. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after they say a 26-year-old was shot and killed, possibly after a previous fight at a different location, Tuesday afternoon in National City.Police say the shooting happened near a 7-Eleven on the 800 block of Eta Street around 11 a.m. Tuesday. MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — A 13-year-old boy seriously injured in an attack involving two other students at a Southern California middle school is "clinically dead" after life-saving treatments failed, authorities said Wednesday.The family of the teen identified only as "Diego" plans to donate his organs, according to a Riverside County Sheriff's Department press release.The student was assaulted Sept. 16 at Landmark Middle School in the city of Moreno Valley, the department said.Two other juveniles who are also students at the school could face prosecution in the assault. Both were booked into juvenile hall last week. Mourners gathered Thursday night in Washington's Dupont Circle to remember the gay college student whose murder changed the way we think about hate crimes, and call attention to the battles that remain.It's been 20 years since Matthew Shepard was robbed, pistol-whipped and tied to a fence by two men he met in a bar in Laramie, Wyoming. He was left in the freezing cold overnight, and a cyclist who thought he was a scarecrow discovered him. He later died in a hospital.Shepard's ashes will be interred Friday at the Washington National Cathedral -- the only place where his parents felt they would be safe from desecration.His death galvanized the LGBTQ civil rights movement, leading to the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, also named for a black man who was killed by three white supremacists in Texas.Speakers at Thursday's candlelight vigil told those in attendance that the fight continues for equal rights and treatment for the LGBTQ community, especially transgender and gender-nonconforming people.The world is a different place than it was when Shepard was killed, said Rev. V. Gene Robinson, who will carry his ashes and preside over Friday's service."But the kind of hatred and violence that killed Matthew Shephard is alive and well and living in this country," Robinson told CNN affiliate WJLA."We've grown more likely to label some people 'other' and treat them horribly. ...
