Drills can also help prevent someone from freezing in a moment of crisis.On the other hand, some advocates say active shooter drills can be scary and cause trauma that leads to issues, either immediately or in the future.Some research presents evidence these drills can be especially tough for people with anxiety or developmental disorders. What some researchers say is missing is studies that say these drills help save lives. She was lead author on a recent report that emphasized threat assessment and prevention.The report says bullying and ostracism are two of the top sources of student distress. And imagine not knowing if your insurance would cover a basic item he needs to help him walk.That's what Christian and Justin Moore were experiencing when they walked into a Home Depot in Cedartown, Georgia, on May 24.Their son Logan is 2 and has hypotonia, a syndrome that impacts his muscle tone and makes stability a struggle. His mom told CNN that Logan's physical therapist suggested a gait trainer to help him with walking, but they did not think insurance would cover it and wondered whether it would arrive in a reasonable time.So she and her husband turned to YouTube, where they found a tutorial to make one out of PVC pipe."I found a video that looked pretty easy and got the list and took it to Home Depot to see if they had everything we needed," Christian Moore said.When they arrived, she asked a store employee she knew if anyone could help them with the supply list. Christian said what happened next shocked her. She was met by a store manager and another employee who came to help."They started getting the parts together and told us they would put it together and would not charge us for it," she said. "They told us to go get ice cream and come back in an hour."When they returned the walker was finished and even included Logan's name."I couldn't believe they were willing to do that. It took everything I had not to cry because it hasn't been an easy road for my son. He has had a hard time doing things that would be easy for most children his age," Moore said.One of the men who helped make the walker, Jeff Anderson, posted about the experience on his Facebook page and said, "Everyone was crying to see Logan walk around with the biggest smile on his face...Thank to all that help and for being a blessing to this family and to this little guy.""There are so many children out there with hypotonia, more than you would think," Christian Moore added. KENSINGTON, N.H. – A father in New Hampshire killed a coyote with his bare hands after it attacked his young child on a trail Monday, according to the Kensington Police Department. Before that attack, police say they received a report of the coyote attacking a vehicle on Drinkwater Road in Hampton Falls at about 8:40 a.m. Shortly after, police say a 62-year-old woman on Hemlock Road reported that she and her dogs were attacked by a coyote.“The coyote was on her three-season porch and her two dogs had opened the sliding door and were attacked by the coyote,” wrote the department. “The two dogs retreated back into the house and the coyote attempted to get into the house. While the homeowner was fighting to keep the coyote out of the house, she was bitten.”The homeowner was treated at an area hospital and received the first series of rabies shots. She will return later in the week for a second set of shots. Her dogs were also treated. Then at about 11 a.m., police say that same coyote attacked a family walking on a trail in Exeter. But celebrating America's independence could cause trauma for those who have fought for America's independence. The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that between 11 and 20 percent of those who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars return home with PTSD. The V.A. said that 12 percent of Desert Storm veterans and 15 percent of Vietnam War vets also have PTSD. While a number of instance can trigger someone to have PTSD, the loud bangs that fireworks cause can be of particular concern for combat veterans.The V.A. says that PTSD can cause veterans to have upsetting memories, feel on edge, or have trouble sleeping. Since 2015, the non-profit group Military with PTSD has distributed yard signs informing neighbors that a veteran with PTSD lives nearby. The signs state "Combat Veteran Lives Here, Please Be Courteous with Fireworks."The signs are distributed nationwide, and can be ordered online. “Courteous to me means remembering that you are not the only one living in your neighborhood," said Jon Dykes, the veteran who made the first sign. "America celebrates our independence on the 4th of July. Not the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th of July. Some fireworks are expected, and that’s OK.
