Nevada Gov. Sisolak has announced a new mandate requiring face masks to be worn in public starting on June 26.Casino operators in the state were quick to applaud the governor's actions in this matter.MGM Resorts International Acting CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle released the following statement in response to Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak’s announcement that masks would be required for indoor public places:“Given the public health situation and the reports of new cases, we support the Governor’s decision to require masks in public places and will begin to enforce according to his guidelines. At MGM Resorts, we have put health and safety at the center of all we do, and this will be a modification of protections that make up our multi-layered Seven-Point Safety Plan.”RELATED: Gov. Steve Sisolak mandates Nevadans to wear face coverings in public spacesMGM also updated their guest policy nationwide, "Guests and visitors inside public spaces will be required to wear masks at all MGM Resorts properties throughout the United States."Wynn Las Vegas released the following statement:"We applaud Governor Sisolak in his decision to require face coverings for everyone in public, including those visiting a resort. It is a demonstration of his commitment, shared by all of us, to keep visitors to Las Vegas safe, as well as our employees and local community. Mandatory face coverings have had no impact on the ability of our employees to deliver great guest experiences Similarly, we believe face coverings will not diminish the unique experiences only Las Vegas can offer visitors."Earlier in the day Caesars Entertainment came out with its own face mask policy and made this statement:“We promised that Caesars would continue to evaluate the latest recommendations, directives and medical science regarding the COVID-19 public health emergency and modify our enhanced health and safety protocols accordingly,” said Tony Rodio, CEO of Caesars Entertainment. “As a result, we are immediately requiring everyone in our properties to wear masks, because the scientific evidence strongly suggests that wearing masks and practicing social distancing may be the most important deterrents to spreading COVID-19 from person to person,” he added.READ GOV. Martha Firestone Ford is stepping down as the owner of the Detroit Lions, the team announced on Tuesday. Her daughter, Sheila Ford Hamp, will succeed her mother as the team's principal owner and chair.Martha, who is 94, has owned the team for six years."It has been a great honor for our family to be association with the Lions and with the National Football League. I am gratified that this family tradition, which my husband and I began almost six decades ago, will continue under Sheila's guiding hand. It is clear to me that Sheila will provide superb leadership and is fully committed to competitive excellence and community involvement," Martha said in a statement."My mother has inspired all of us since taking on the leadership of the Lions over six years ago. She has been a tireless leader to our family, our team, and our community. Her smart decisions have given me a solid foundation to take the team forward. On behalf of the family and the team, I want to thank her for her countless contributions. I look forward to leading the Lions to excellence on and off the field," Sheila said in a statement. When she took over for the team after her husband, William Clay Ford died, she became a fixture at practices and at games.“I’m so impressed by the way that she handles things, runs the team, is involved. She was out at practice last week, it was 90-some degrees, stood out there the whole practice. I mean, she might be in better shape than some of the players,” New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick said during the NFL Films interview. He was speaking of a joint practice between the Patriots and Lions in the summer of 2019.“We have meetings, two or three times a week during the season. We’re at training camp together so we can talk about players that we see. It’s just such a big part of my life, I don’t know where it begins or ends,” she said in an NFL Films clip. “I don’t pretend to be an expert on coaching, but I know enough to be on top of what’s going on.”Ford was one of ten female owners in the NFL. WXYZ was first to report this story. 2098

Boeing's bestselling passenger jet is facing increased scrutiny after being involved in two deadly crashes in less than five months, a situation that threatens to tarnish the US plane maker's reputation for safety.Chinese aviation authorities on Monday told airlines in the country to ground all their Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, citing the need for "strict control of safety risks." Some individual airlines are taking similar action elsewhere. And Boeing has postponed the debut of its new 777X jetliner, which was scheduled for this week, as it deals with the fallout from Sunday's disaster in Ethiopia. The flurry of negative headlines unsettled investors. Boeing shares dropped nearly 9% in premarket trading early Monday in New York. All 157 people on board a 737 MAX 8 operated by Ethiopian Airlines were killed when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff on Sunday morning. In late October, a 737 MAX 8 flown by Lion Air went down off the coast of Indonesia, killing 189 people. Both the Ethiopian Airlines and Lion Air planes were brand-new aircraft. And both crashed minutes into flight.Ethiopian Airlines said Monday that it was grounding its fleet of 737 MAX planes as an "extra safety precaution," and Cayman Airways, the main carrier of the Cayman Islands, said it would do the same until "more information is received."The circumstances of the two crashes remain under investigation, and Boeing has presented no evidence to suggest the two disasters are linked. The similarities may be a coincidence."A formal investigation will need to be conducted into this new crash. It's important not to speculate as to its causes. A final, conclusive report has yet to be issued in the case of the Lion [Air] crash," said Greg Waldron, Asia managing editor at aviation research firm FlightGlobal."That said, having two crashes of a brand new type in a short time is an unprecedented state of events," he added. "It is inevitable that this will affect perceptions about the 737 MAX family."The decision by Chinese authorities to ground 737 MAX 8 planes in the country is a serious blow."A suspension in China is very significant, as this is a major market for Boeing," Waldron said. Chinese airlines have 97 of the 737 MAX aircraft in service, more than a quarter of the total in operation worldwide, according to FlightGlobal.Boeing's bestsellerThe single-aisle Boeing 737 has been a workhorse on short- and medium-haul flights for decades. The 737 MAX is the latest version — and the company's bestselling aircraft by far. Airlines have ordered thousands of them. The two-year-old 737 MAX 8 model in particular is hugely popular (the MAX 9 only recently went on sale and Boeing has not yet delivered the MAX 10). Last year, 72% of Boeing's deliveries were 737 planes. Boeing plans to make 59 new 737s each month this year — more than four times the number of 787s, Boeing's next-best seller.Southwest Airlines has the largest fleet of 737 MAX 8 airplanes, followed by RyanAir and FlyDubai, according to 3018

Peak flu season is starting now, and doctors say to get ready for a potentially extended season. This year’s flu season has been rough, with the CDC reporting the flu is widespread in 24 states, with 19 states reporting high levels of flu activity. That's more than double the activity of the previous week. A total of 13 children have died so far this flu season. Doctors say it could get worse. “Flu activity has taken off our projection is that it's going to continue to increase, probably for the next few months,” says Dr. Andrew Walshak with Presbyterian/ St. Luke’s Medical Center. Dr. Walshak says he expects to see more flu cases around the country. “The graph of flu activity in our hospital is just increasing,” he explains. “It's just a slow upward, so we're only at the beginning of flu season right now.” Everyone is at risk: your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. “It can really affect the lungs and affect our ability to get oxygen in our bodies, and that's what primarily the fatalities have been caused by his severe breathing problems,” he says. Dr. Walshak says it's not too late to get the flu shot. Vaccines protect against multiple flu strains. “So, just because one strain of flu is circulating in the community doesn't mean that another strain of flu won't circulate later in the flu season,” Dr. Walshak says. “So, I tell patients it's never too late to get your flu shot.” An estimated 80,000 people died during the 2017-2018 flu season, according to the CDC. 1513

LONGMONT, Colo. — As some struggle with the decision on whether to hold a Thanksgiving celebration, a Colorado man says his family averted a worst-case scenario by canceling theirs.Shakeel Dalal’s family comes together every year from around the country for a large Thanksgiving celebration that usually lasts several days. A mandatory event that usually includes around 40 family members. “Everyone brings their own dish, one of my cousins brings the mashed potatoes, my cousin makes the green bean casserole, and it’s the progressive arrival of people when they get home hugging, everyone hugging all the kids, my parents,” Dalal said. They decided to still hold a small Thanksgiving this year with around a dozen people at his parent's home in the Midwest. But as the days grew closer and COVID-19 cases broke records, Shakeel grew uneasy.“Every morning I would wake up and think to myself, 'What is the risk like that I am going to get my parents sick?' My parents are in their 70’s,” he said. The Dalal family made the tough decision last week to cancel their plans. Then Monday, his father tested positive for COVID-19.The family narrowly avoided the kind of gathering health officials are concerned about.“We would never had known after I had already been there for three days and my sister would have been there for a day,” he said. “As much as I would like to tell myself, 'I would have been good to social distance and wear a mask the whole time,' it’s impossible.”Dalal shared his experience on social media hoping others would also take precautions.“Consider what you might regret if your family gets together, somebody gets COVID, and whether or not you get to see them next year,” he said. His father has minor symptoms and will hopefully fully recover. His mother has miraculously remained negative for the virus. He says the sacrifice they are making now will be worth it when they can all come together next year.“I am planning to make a full spread for myself. I bought a chicken, I am making rolls from scratch and I expect to spend a lot of time on Zoom and Facetime talking to my family,” Dalal said.
