Hurricane Maria caused an estimated 2,975 deaths in Puerto Rico, according to a new report from George Washington University -- 46 times more than the official toll given by the government.Researchers calculated excess deaths that occurred in the US commonwealth between September 2017 and February 2018.The study was commissioned by the Puerto Rican government after the September 2017 storm.The latest estimated death toll is far higher than the current official toll of 64.A key unanswered question: Will the Puerto Rican government now revise its official tally as a result?Another uncertainty: Will this new study, conducted at the request of Puerto Rican officials, provide any closure to families who've long argued their loved ones died because of the storm, but haven't received any official acknowledgment? 824

(KGTV) -- Imperial Beach is known for its surfing, sandcastle competitions, and stunning pier, and now you can add scavenger hunt to the list, with a July event created to showcase the city's history and culture."We really want to make sure we're providing something that gives people the opportunity to get out and enjoy the community," says Imperial Beach City Councilman Mark West.Imperial Beach has partnered with IB Active and the San Diego Bike Coalition to put on the scavenger hunt. "It hunts down beautiful and historical places throughout our community, and it's been a great event," says West.Families can make their way around Imperial Beach searching for clues, problem solving, and completing tasks."We've had over 200 families throughout Imperial Beach who are out every weekend riding their bikes, looking for clues on the Scavify app."West says the scavenger hunt is quite fun, and you might call it "The Amazing Race," Imperial Beach style"It is very similar, but we don't quite go to the extremes they do. It is very fun and a lot about solving problems. Hurricane Willa is nearing the Pacific coast of Mexico as a potentially catastrophic Category 5 storm, after experiencing what the National Hurricane Center called "explosive" strengthening over the past 48 hours.Willa's maximum sustained winds, as of Monday morning, were 160 mph, making it a top-of-the-scale hurricane. Its current intensity is slightly more than Hurricane Michael's when it made landfall in Florida's Panhandle less than two weeks ago.The storm has supercharged at an incredible rate since it formed over the weekend. From Sunday morning to Monday morning, Hurricane Willa strengthened 80 mph in only 24 hours, and went from forming into a tropical storm on Saturday morning to a Category 5 in less than 48 hours.The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center calls for Willa to weaken some before landfall, but the storm is still expected to be a major hurricane, likely still a high-end Category 4, when it makes landfall on Tuesday afternoon. 983

If you live with someone who has opposing views about the COVID-19 pandemic, it can make living situations awkward.Hunter Stanfield is an assistant professor of family science at Lipscomb University. When approaching someone about their views on COVID-19, and their habits, he said it’s best to remain calm and open-minded.“It is throwing everyone for a loop,” Stanfield said, “So instead of saying that you’re really getting worked up about this, that’s probably not the best initial approach. It may be ‘I can see that this is really upsetting to you, can you tell me a little bit more about that?'”He said trying to understand, before attempting to be understood, is a good starting place. “Am I willing to consider their perspective, or am I in this to prove them wrong? Which in the end gets us nowhere in all of this, so I think those basic things are really important and critical.”If you know why someone’s habits are a certain way, it’s possible to compromise.“I know some people say compromise is a dirty word, in this case, I think compromise really gets at the fact that I’m wanting to meet someone or be a part of someone’s life the best I can," Stanfield said.If the social awkwardness persists, a ton of people is going to therapy to sort it out right now.“I sometimes equate therapy to taking your car in to get an oil change. If you’re among the 40 million people online looking for love, you know it can be tough finding the perfect match. It might be your fault, but one little change could send you down the aisle. The problem? You may be dating out of your league. A new study found that users who messaged people out of their league typically waited a lot longer to get a reply back or even get a reply at all. "A lot of people try to date out of their league, and they use that terminology," says Chief love officer Michelle Frankel, with New York City Matchmaking. "But it may not result in the end relationship they are looking for; but it might not even be what they perceive it to be."  According to Urban Dictionary, dating out of your league simply means you’ve got no shot. However, Frankel says that’s not true all the time. For example, look at Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel, back in the 1980's.Frankel says dating up like Billy Joel did can work, but it can’t be based on looks alone. “Look what he brought to the table," explains Frankel. "Clearly he was financially set at the time and also he had so much unique talent."  If you date out of your league simply to find someone better looking than you, Frankel says good luck finding a match. "That's not a recipe for a lasting relationship in and of itself.
