(KGTV) - Voters are expressing confusion and frustration after receiving a mailer titled 'COPS Voter Guide.'Brandon Salgado was sorting through the mail this past weekend at his grandfather’s home in Santee when he saw the political mailer."It’s got the badge, says 'COPS Voter Guide.' On the back it says 'COPS' and it's red and blue. Looks like something law enforcement would back," said Salgado.Salgado has family members that work in and with law enforcement, and took a closer look at the mailer’s list of ‘priority’ propositions. At the top, next to Prop 16, which involves the issue of affirmative action, is the word 'NO,' and an arrow pointing to a mailer's description of the proposition: 'For Racial Equality.'"I was shocked that someone should put out that law enforcement is 'No' for racial equality. Just didn’t sit well with me. It’s a bad look, bad optics," said Salgado.Salgado, who thought the mailer had police backing, then saw the fine print, which says 'This organization does not represent any public safety personnel.'So what does it represent?A video on the the COPS Voter Guide website says the Folsom-based group is a non-partisan, public advocacy organization.“The candidates we support have pledged to make public safety a top priority,” explains the group's director in the video.During the 2016 presidential election, the Modesto Bee described it as a 'pay-to-play mailer,' disguising advertisements as endorsements. On the mailer itself, there is the phrase 'paid for' by the candidates or ballot measures."It’s completely misleading ... If I were law enforcement, I'd be upset they appear to be representing me," said Salgado.Salgado, who says the mailer's law enforcement branding is convincing, worries other voters may not read the fine print."Everyone should want the truth and the facts to make a decision for themselves ... SEATTLE, Wash. – Models show a “second wave” of coronavirus deaths beginning in the United States in September, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation said Thursday.The IHME has extended its COVID-19 forecasts through Oct. 1 and the institute says they show 169,890 deaths in the US by October 1, with a possible range between 133,201 and 290,222.IHME says deaths nationwide are predicted to remain fairly level through August and begin to rise again at the end of the month, with a more pronounced increase during September. However, the institute says some states will see the increase earlier due to increased mobility and relaxation of social distancing mandates.“We’re now able to look ahead and see where states need to begin planning for a second wave of COVID-19,” said IHME Director Dr. Christopher Murray. “We hope to see our model proven wrong by the swift actions governments and individuals take to reduce transmission.”Based on IHME’s models, these states are estimated to have the highest numbers of deaths by Oct. 1:· New York: 32,310 (range between 31,754 and 33,241)· New Jersey: 13,177 (12,881–13,654)· California: 8,821(7,151–12,254)· Michigan: 8,771 (7,098–14,743)IHME says the states with the earliest uptick in deaths, according to current modeling, are Florida, Arizona, Georgia, and Colorado.“If the US is unable to check the growth in September, we could be facing worsening trends in October, November, and the following months if the pandemic, as we expect, follows pneumonia seasonality,” Dr. Murray said.According to IHME, increasing travel in some states and the overlap with the flu season are likely to impact hospital demand for services in fall and winter.The IHME is an independent population health research center at the University of Washington School of Medicine. (KGTV) - A Paradise family is thanking the San Diego community, after donations began pouring in for them following the deadly Camp Fire.The Harrisons are currently staying with family in Santee after the fire destroyed their homes. With nothing to return to, the family said they may make San Diego their permanent home and have already started looking at schools for their teenage son."I don't think Thanksgiving could have come at a better time," said Emily Keith, who evaded flames while carrying the family's three pets and caring for her brother."I had to go up on sidewalks and into front yards and in between trees, and try to maneuver my way out of town," Keith said.RELATED: Light rain falling on Camp Fire zone could hurt search effortDuring the evacuation, the children were separated from their parents. At one point, their car caught fire and they were forced to run from the flames."It was a life or death situation, honestly," Haley Harrison said. "I was running down the road hoping that someone would stop."The family made it safely to Chico nearly seven hours later. While they haven't been able to go back to Paradise, they've seen photos of their homes burned to the ground."My kids are safe. 18 years of stuff and memories we had in the house are gone but I don't care about that," Haley and Emily's dad Tyler said. "You hit the reset button. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A broken water main damaged a Santee street and flooded at least one nearby business early Friday morning.At around 3:45 a.m., authorities were called to Prospect Avenue and Cuyamaca Street in response to a water coming out of the roadway.The water blasted out of the street and flooded an auto repair business. At least six vehicles were partially submerged due to the rising water.By 4:15 a.m., authorities were able to shut off the water and begin road repairs.A city official said they believe the overnight temperature change may have caused the water main break.ABC 10News learned repairs are expected to last throughout the day.The public is asked to avoid the area of Prospect Avenue and Cuyamaca Street, as lanes have been closed. 772
