The state had seen some form of drought for at least 376 consecutive weeks. As of Thursday, the agency said more than 93 percent of the state was out of drought conditions. RELATED: Devastating 'ARk' storm envisioned for California by U.S. Geological SurveyAmong the areas still seeing "abnormally dry" conditions are a small patch along California's border with Oregon and parts of four Southern California counties, including San Diego County. San Diego County's drought conditions were due to abnormally dry years prior to this winter, according to the agency, and local reservoirs were not at capacity despite the heavy rains."The rest of the region in Southern California is still abnormally dry due to very dry previous years. Reservoirs in San Diego County are only at 65 [percent] capacity. Big Bear Lake was down 18 feet in early March, although expected to continue to rise," the agency says.RELATED: Recent rain not enough to bring San Diego out of droughtLocally, weather is expected to continue warming into next week, after the region saw more rain and snow last weekend. 1347

A 9-year-old boy retrieved a gun from his parents' bedroom and shot his 13-year-old sister to death, authorities said, after the two got into an argument over a video game controller. The incident occurred over the weekend in rural Monroe County, Mississippi, as the children's mother was preparing lunch in the kitchen, the country sheriff said."He wanted the controller, and I guess he knew where to find the gun," Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told CNN.The boy grabbed a handgun, which was kept in a nightstand next to the bed, and shot the sister in the back of the head, the sheriff said."This is the first time I've ever dealt with any child that was shot like that," Cantrell said. "And I hope I never deal with it again."The girl was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, where she was pronounced dead Sunday. The case is still under investigation and authorities have not filed charges."We are talking to the district attorney," Cantrell said.The-CNN-Wire 977
(KGTV) - The California Department of Vehicles is reaching out to state residents to make sure they have a valid REAL ID ahead of the 2020 federal deadline. REAL ID cardholders who presented only one residency document when they applied must confirm their address by mail, DMV officials say. The DMV sent 3.6 million letters to cardholders, asking them to verify their mailing address and return the letter to the agency. Anyone who lost or did not receive a letter by Aug. 15 can request one through an online form, DMV officials say. Starting Oct. 1, 2020, all travelers must present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or other TSA-approved identification, such as a passport or military ID, to fly within the United States. 736
