A group of civilians confronted the suspect, 24-year-old Victor Magana, after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend and took off from San Jose with their daughter. Al Ashcroft, a man visiting the Central Coast from Oregon, recognized the suspect's vehicle, a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, from the alert Monday morning at a Shell gas station. While he blocked the car in and called police, nearby men helped restrain the driver. "Four of us surrounded him and said, 'You're not leaving,'" Ashcroft said. Deputies say Magana locked his keys inside the car with the child while making a pit stop in Cambria. "He hit the window twice to try and break in and finally a guy bear hugged him from behind and I took the rock away," Ashcroft said. Witnesses say Magana bought snacks at the store and tried to break into his car to feed his daughter. "He kept screaming that he wasn't that guy, that it wasn't him and that his daughter hadn't eaten in six hours," said Tammy Hall. The little girl was strapped in the front seat the whole time civilians were attempting to restrain the father. Many are praising the people who stepped up to save her. "I am amazed that these men were able to hold him here and stop him from taking off. They were very brave. Heroes," Hall said.Both Magana and the girl are in custody. Magana will eventually be transferred back to Santa Clara County, according to authorities. According to NBC Bay Area, Magana's girlfriend suffered at least one stab wound. at Detroit Metropolitan Airport's McNamara Terminal Friday morning.According to an airport spokesperson, the incident happened at 6:30 a.m. local time.The man walked up to a checkpoint at the McNamara Terminal and removed his clothing. He then disconnected a stanchion at the checkpoint and approached a metal detector.The TSA officers didn't allow the man through the detector.Shameka Scott was traveling to Atlanta when she heard commotion and turned to see the naked man running past security.Scott says the man veered around the detector and made it to where TSA agents screen the bags after people walk through the detectors."I’m just shocked he got that far through TSA," she said. "I’m just grateful he did ‘t have a bomb or anything like that. With wildfires impacting many American wineries, many winemakers are having tougher times testing their grapes.“Everything is so bad, it’s funny,” said Ashley Trout, owner and operator of Brook and Bull Cellars in Walla Walla, Washington.With professional labs that test grapes for smoke taint back logged for more than a month, Trout is now literally taking matters into her own hands, testing grapes during a natural fermentation process and using her senses to spot signs of smoke taint.Trout says instead of waiting five weeks for results from a lab, she’s now getting them in five days on her own.With more challenges in the industry, wine experts say more winemakers are trying creative techniques.“Everybody is going back to the drawing board thinking, 'Okay, what can I do, what will compliment this wine I’m making,’” said Anita Oberholster, Ph.D., with the University of California, Davis viticulture and enology program.She says wildfires have forced many wineries to go back to the basic of wine making.“People are throwing their recipe books away,” Oberholster said. “If you can, rather do hand picking than machine harvesting because it’s more gentle on the grapes.”Oberholster estimates about 20% of the grapes grown in 2020 were not harvested, which could cause this multi-billion dollar industry to raise its prices.Back in the vineyards, Trout is reluctantly adjusting to this new norm.“I have never wanted to make wine in a bucket before,” she said.With wildfires still raging across the West Coast, the area that produces 85% of America’s wine, winemakers like Trout will be feeling the impacts long after the smoke settles.“It’s 2020,” she said. “So, we’re going to make some bucket wine and see how it goes.” 1738
