(KGTV) - A South Bay family is mourning the loss of a beloved grandfather after a long battle with COVID-19.Salvador Munoz first started feeling sick in early August, developing a cough and fever, and then testing positive for COVID-19. About 10 days later, an ambulance rushed him to a hospital."He became disoriented, tired and couldn't get out of bed. When he talked to the paramedics, he couldn't really speak because he was short on his breath," said daughter-in-law Venessa Munoz.Venessa and his wife Bertha say he was admitted, and a week later, placed on a ventilator."He had complications and then would get better again. Just an emotional roller coaster for everybody," said Venessa.Salvador developed complications with his kidneys and then his heart. After 45 days in the ICU, Salvador Munoz, a father of five, and grandfather of seven, passed away at the age of 68."It's just so hard, so hard. I am relieved to know he is not suffering," said Bertha.Loved ones say Salvador, who owned his own cleaning business, was energetic, funny and joyful."Always the first one dancing. He lived to put smiles on everybody's faces," said Venessa.Bertha tell us she was with Salvador for more than 50 years and never spent a day apart."He was always a loving, caring, respectful man ... He's an angel," said BerthaBertha isn't sure how he contracted the virus. They rarely went out and wore masks."This is a serious thing, so take of yourself. Don’t take it for granted that nothing is going to happen to you, because it could," said Bertha.Bertha got sick around the same time her husband developed symptoms. (KGTV) — Police are searching for an 81-year-old man who was last seen in the Otay Ranch Mall area.Chula Vista Police says Donald Mooring was last seen around 3 p.m. near the Otay Ranch Mall on Thursday. Police add that Mooring may be suffering from the effects of dementia.Mooring is described as a black man, 5-foot 9-inches tall, and weighing about 230 pounds. He may be driving a white 2010 Dodge Caravan with California plates "7CHU230".He is believed to be wearing a green plaid shirt, khaki pants, and black tennis shoes.Anyone with information on Mooring's whereabouts is asked to call CVPD at 619-691-5151. 643

(KGTV) — Police say they rescued a kidnapping victim this week, after the man was able to signal for help through a car's cracked window as the suspect tasked with guarding him slept.Sunday night, a 36-year-old man was attacked by two men and thrown into a pick-up truck while walking to his car from a restaurant in the 600 block of Broadway, Chula Vista Police said.Police said the suspects took the victim to a second location near Sequoia St. and Presidio Point Ct. and handed him off to a third suspect waiting in a parked car. While the suspect in the front seat was supposed to be watching the victim in the backseat, he fell asleep instead, police say.Police say that's when the victim was able to signal for help, waving a white cloth out of a slightly cracked open window in the backseat. A passerby spotted the victim flagging for help at about 11:30 a.m. Monday and called police.Police arrived and rescued the man and arrested the sleeping guard.That's when the suspected pick-up originally used to abduct the victim drove past, police said. Police say they arrested one of the two men inside the truck who they believe to have been involved with Sunday's incident.Police are still looking for a third suspect.The motive behind the abduction remains unclear, police said, but it didn't appear the victim knew the kidnappers.The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the ordeal, police added. 1470

(KGTV) - A Chula Vista man is recovering after a painful encounter with a rattlesnake sent him to a hospital for several days.It happened in a quiet Eastlake neighborhood near a canyon. A week ago, along White Pine Ct., just before. 9 p.m., Lino Ayon was visiting a neighbor, inside a garage, when the neighbor pressed the remote. The door went up."As I stepped out, I felt like a pinch in my ankle area. Then I heard a rattle and by the time I said, 'Oh, that's a snake,' it bit me again," said Ayon.His neighbor tracked it down and killed it: a 3-and-a-half-foot rattlesnake. Meanwhile, Ayon quickly started feel the effects of the bites."My body started getting numb, my face and my chin," said Ayon.His left ankle -- where he had been bitten twice -- started to swell with pain. His speech was slurred."In my mind I knew what I wanted to say, but it wasn't coming out right," said Ayon.He was brought to the ER, eventually receiving two doses of antivenin. He was released from the hospital two days later."Very scary, never in a million years did I think I was going to be bitten by a snake," said Ayon.While rattlesnake bites for humans are fairly rare, experts say be on the lookout this time of year. It's birthing season, so there are more rattlers slithering about.Local snake wrangler Tom Mingha tells ABC 10News when the temperatures heat up, rattlesnakes become active at night, when it's cooler.That is when Ayon had his encounter.
