SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local father is just a few days away from reuniting with his family who is in federal quarantine in Northern California at Travis Air Force Base. Ken Burnett's wife and two young children were visiting Wuhan, China when the coronavirous broke out. The city shut down and the three were stranded, unable to fly home. Their 14-day federal quarantine ends on Tuesday. Burnett plans on traveling to Northern California to reunite with his wife and kids so they can all travel back to San Diego together. San Diego (KGTV) -- A person was killed when their motorcycle crashed into a guardrail while riding with friends.Police received the report of the crash at the intersection of Sweetwater and Shannonbrook Court just after 10:30 p.m. in Lemon Grove.Police closed the intersection to investigate how the motorcyclist lost control.The victim died at the scene, their name was not immediately released. 405

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Palomar College student told deputies he wanted to cause a mass casualty shooting at the school and carry it out in April to commemorate the Columbine High School shooting.Team 10 has learned the student is the same person who made threats involving the San Diego County Administration Center last week.10News is not naming the student because no records are showing he’s been charged with a crime at this time.According to court documents obtained by 10News, the student stated to San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies he intended on “targeting the egress walkways by using an elevated point and shooting a firearm upon bystanders.”The court filing, a petition for workplace violence restraining orders, included a Palomar College Incident Reporting Form that stated, “he intended on targeting the egress walkways by using an elevated point and shooting a firearm upon bystanders.” It also noted he “began planning this assault in January 2018 and wanted to carry it out on Friday, April 20, 2018, to commemorate the Columbine High School shooting.”The student didn't have a specific staff member or student targeted but was looking at any bystanders that would be in the area.A spokesperson for Palomar College tells 10News,  1269

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego dentist is giving parents a new tool to win the battle over brushing.Dr. Kami Hoss recently released a singing toothbrush that pairs with augmented reality technology."We gotta come up with brushes that are really fun and educate in a fun way," says Dr. Hoss.The brush plays a song for two minutes, which is the amount of time dentists recommend for brushing teeth. While the song plays, kids can use an app to watch augmented reality characters come to life on their phones.The characters "pop out" of a sticker placed on the bathroom mirror and teach kids how to brush properly. Hoss says this is the first toothbrush to use AR."It's Pixar quality," says Dr. Hoss of the animation. "We spent years developing this to make sure it's beautiful."According to the CDC, around 20% of kindergarteners have some form of tooth decay. Studies show that children brush their teeth 73% longer when listening to music. The toothbrush also helps people know when it's time to buy a new one. If someone uses it to brush twice a day, the battery will die after three months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A San Diego fire captain convicted of domestic violence was sentenced Wednesday.Steven Michaels received three years probation, 52 weeks of counseling and 180 days of custody which will be served in a county parole and alternative custody program, according to City News Service.Michaels, a veteran fire captain with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, pleaded guilty in 2017 to shoving his girlfriend against a wall and refusing to let her use a phone to call for help, CNS reported.RELATED: Veteran San Diego fire captain pleads guilty to domestic violence chargeMichaels filed a request to have the felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor, but Judge Timothy Walsh denied the request citing a history of alcohol-related incidents of domestic violence.The felony conviction will likely cause Michaels to lose his job."He's taken away his career," said Walsh," if there is a career left. Four times!"When asked if Michaels was still employed by the department, Monica Munoz, a spokesperson for San Diego Fire-Rescue, only said, “we can’t give information about personnel issues.”10News has also requested comment from a spokesperson with SDFD's personnel department. Public records website, Transparent California, shows Michaels made 3,407 in 2016.The victim, Jane Doe, initially told investigators she feared for her safety, according to prosecutors.
