GASLAMP QUARTER (KGTV) - A benefit was held Sunday night for a local woman injured in a parasailing accident in Mexico. On June 9th, Katie Malone was in Puerto Vallarta to celebrate her 29th birthday when tragedy struck. According to a local newspaper, Malone was parasailing when the rope tethered to a boat somehow broke and left her flying through the air.Malone crash-landed at an airport and suffered a fractured skull, fractured pelvis, broken ribs, a collapsed lung and other injuries. Donations helped pay for her treatment and life flight from Mexico back to San Diego. She spent about a month in the hospital. For the past few months, Malone has been in physical therapy and working to get stronger everyday. She says she is a year ahead of schedule."When it first happened, I just wanted to move forward and not dwell on things," Malone said. "I would do physical therapy and in between physical therapy I would do homework they gave me to do."  Malone is extremely thankful to family and friends who have been there for her and helped her move forward.Sunday night's benefit was held at "Tin Roof" in the Gaslamp Quarter. The benefit was to raise money for Malone's medical bills.Malone said she might go parasailing again, but not anytime soon. 1315

General Electric is looking to get out of the coal business.On Monday, the company announced that it won't be building any new coal-fueled power plants as they continue to "focus on and invest in its core renewable energy and power generation businesses.""With the continued transformation of GE, we are focused on power generation businesses that have attractive economics and a growth trajectory," Russell Stokes, GE Senior Vice President and President & CEO of GE Power Portfolio said in the news release. "As we pursue this exit from the new build coal power market, we will continue to support our customers, helping them to keep their existing plants running in a cost-effective and efficient way with best-in-class technology and service expertise."The company said the move could potentially lead to site closing, layoffs, and appropriate considerations for publicly held subsidiaries.GE says they aren't cutting off coal ties entirely as they service existing plants and build turbines for nuclear power plants. 1032

GREELEY, Colo. — A Colorado woman says she was denied a haircut at a local Great Clips because her baby son was not wearing a mask.Meri Smith decided she was finally ready to get a haircut. It would have been her first one since the COVID-19 pandemic reached the U.S. in March.She made an online appointment at Great Clips, and when she went to the salon to check-in, she was told that her son "can't come in" to the building."They said you can't come in because he's under two and he can't wear a mask," Smith said.Smith said she was confused and humiliated by the situation. As a teacher, she's familiar with Colorado's statewide mask mandate and she knows it doesn't apply to children who are 10 and younger."I just felt rejected. It made me sad and uncomfortable that I couldn't go get a haircut just because my son was a baby," Smith said.A spokesperson for Great Clips released the following statement from Michelle Iacovetta, the COO of Holtzman Enterprises, Inc. and a Great Clips franchisee."Holtzman Enterprises, Inc. does not require children under two years of age to wear a mask in our salons, following guidance from the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Harvey Weinstein is facing new allegations of sex trafficking and rape.A German actress, using the pseudonym Emma Loman, filed a federal lawsuit in Los Angeles on Monday, alleging that Weinstein raped her during the Cannes Film Festival in 2006. She is suing Weinstein for violation of human trafficking laws, assault, battery and false imprisonment, according to court documents obtained by CNN."Our client brings her claims in an effort to achieve justice for herself, and she hopes that by doing so she can help open the door to justice for the women in her industry who have undergone similar experiences," John G. Balestriere, the attorney handling Loman's claim, said in a statement to CNN. "Mr. Weinstein must answer these allegations and be held accountable for any damage he has caused our client."Phyllis Kupferstein, an attorney representing Weinstein, told CNN in a statement, "This lawsuit is an attempt to continue the legal barrage and public attention on Mr. Weinstein. The allegations are untrue and the claims are barred by the statute of limitations. We intend to immediately move to dismiss the complaint."According to the suit, Loman said she met with Weinstein at his hotel suite in Cannes, France to discuss starring in an upcoming film project he was producing, but he soon started making sexual advances towards her."Upon arriving at Weinstein's suite, however, Weinstein quickly dropped his professional demeanor," the suit states. "He instead overpowered Loman and raped her. Shocked and betrayed, Loman did not know what to do. Hershey's chocolate is about to get more expensive.The candy company is planning to raise the prices of a fifth of its products by about 2.5%, Hershey reiterated on Thursday. The changes will go into effect next year.One of many companies getting squeezed by rising commodity and shipping costs, Hershey hopes higher prices will offset those costs without scaring away customers.Hershey (HSY) first said that it would raise prices over the summer, citing rising operational costs. "Our new pricing approach is much more precise," said CEO Michele Buck at the time.Chief Financial Officer Patricia Little said on Thursday that Hershey started feeling the impact of higher freight and logistics last year."I don't expect that to change going forward into next year," she said.The company is doing more than just increase prices to drive growth.Hershey is investing in digital to keep impulse shopping alive online.
