SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Saturday a new curfew went into effect for San Diego businesses, in an attempt to slow the sky-rocketing coronavirus cases across the state.Saturday, the county announced 1,478 new coronavirus cases, the highest number in a single day we've seen. San Diego County's total is now 70,709 cases. Six more people have died from the virus, bringing the local death toll to 966.This alarming rise in cases urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to issue a limited stay-at-home order for counties in the purple tier, shutting all businesses down 10 p.m. - 5 a.m. until Dec. 21.That cuts restaurants down about an hour from the way they were operating prior, according to Mike Hess, founder of Mike Hess Brewing."It gets my crew home earlier, it's just another thing to deal with, it's a month maybe it's longer we'll see, we'll keep going," he said.He's not worried so much about the latest change."This has been the year of hits, I mean it's one after another," Hess said he's concerned about winter weather coming."Heaters are in shortage, you know covered space, you know that kind of thing, it's tough to shelter people on a sidewalk," he said.He's also worried about keeping cans in stock, "there's plenty of aluminum there's just a shortage of manufacturers making cans."He said he's thankful for his incredible team who is taking the punches with him."Everybody says pivot I think it's more than pivot, you have to be flexible," he said.Hess said he's thankful his doors are open and business is good, "production is up this year, we're putting everything in cans so that's been good, and our on-site locations have been doing pretty well this year."Hess longs to bring a sense of community back, "I long for those days when people can mingle and say hey! SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sitting in the heart of San Diego, Mission Trails Regional Park has 65 miles of trails, as well as boating and picnic areas. You might call it a hikers and bikers paradise, as it provides eight thousand acres of pure outdoor enjoyment for more than two million visitors each year. "Mission Trails Regional Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country," says Jennifer Morrissey, the Executive Director of the Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation.Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in mid-March, the park has seen a big increase in visitors, which is great. But it has also created a few problems. "Because we have so many more people," says Morrissey, "we are seeing that there is more wear and tear on the trails."Prior to the pandemic, some of the park's hundreds of volunteers would help maintain the trails. But for the time being, that program has been suspended. "Unfortunately, we don't have volunteers at the park right now. They do everything, from helping on the trails, to staffing the visitors center, to beautification projects. So right now, within the park, there is a lot of work that needs to be done."That work takes money. And that is why Morrissey says 'Giving Tuesday' is the most important fundraiser of the year. "There is a matching progam in place, so that every dollar people give will be matched dollar for dollar by a group of our donors. .Funds that we raise through 'Giving Tuesday' can go towards trail maintenance, restoration, and educational programs we are doing online right now.'While donations are always important, they are even more critical during this pandemic. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some students in the San Diego Unified School District are being allowed to return to campus Tuesday as the district begins the first phase of its reopening plan.The district began the 2020-21 school year on Aug. 31 with a distance learning program for its students. In recent weeks, during the distance learning period, teachers have been working to determine which students they believe would benefit from appointment-based in-person learning sessions.Appointment sessions will be voluntary; the rest of the time, those students will continue with distance learning.SD Unified officials said they’ve also been working with health experts in designing a reopening plan that would ensure all students and staff are safe.Despite the reopening plan, there are some parents who still do not believe it’s enough.On Tuesday afternoon, a group of parents called Reopen SDUSD has scheduled a rally at 4 p.m. in front of the Board of Education building to voice their concerns about the reopening plan.The group, which held a similar rally last month, is calling for a more detailed reopening plan and they want the district to be more transparent.Reopen SDUSD has gathered thousands of signatures for a petition urging the district to allow more students to return to campus.ABC 10News spoke with some parents at the September rally who said they want options because distance learning is not working for them.One mother said her children “dread going on Zoom. They dread being on the computer. They don’t like learning via the screen. They’re just losing a lot of interest, and I end up having to yell at them, ‘Do your work!’ And it’s frustrating because it impacts our relationship in a negative way.” 1725

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld's Tidal Twister roller coaster was open for roughly two weeks before an "operational issue" forced the ride to close.Friday, the park reopened the attraction to the public after repairs and has "passed inspection by the required agency," according to the park.In a statement to 10News, SeaWorld confirmed the ride passed inspection, adding, "The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority, and we are pleased to have resolved the issue in a short period of time."RELATED: SeaWorld unveils Tidal Twister thrill ride at San Diego parkThe ride had been shut down on June 1 over the mechanical issue, according to Cal/OSHA. Tidal Twister features duel track cars traveling at 30 mph around an infinite loop. The ride also features a research support aquarium that highlights sustainable aquaculture and coral reef protection.The ride comes on the heels of the wildly successful Electric Eel , which opened in May 2018.
